I think the problem is you can't because a lot of those hijinks and shit were meant to make the characters more likeable and fleshed out, problem being characters are just annoying.

Genuinely enjoyed it more than its predecessor. I'm glad it had a different tone from Zeta, even if it wasn't as serious. I don't think the seriousness of Zeta has aged well

Well personally I'm glad it gets it's head out of it's ass for at least the second half, and drops the stupid slapstick comedy.
The solution for too serious isn't to go 180 in the opposite direction.
