Shirobako

Did anybody else find the first 6 episodes of this series to be far less engaging than the 18 that followed? I only successfully completed Shirobako on my 3rd attempt because I kept losing interest during the first 6 episodes. When I finally pushed through to the end, I finally understood why it was so popular - the second cour in particular being great stuff.

Were there any similar sentiments expressed when it was airing?

Pic related is best girl.

I loved from episode 1 on, but the second cour is indeed better.
The only thing that the second cour does worse than the first is less Erica screentime, who is indeed best girl.

>The only thing that the second cour does worse than the first is less Erica screentime, who is indeed best girl.
Yeah, it's sorta strange that the situation with her father didn't really go anywhere other than conveniently removing her from the cast so that new characters could be brought in.

Her return made for a great scene though.

I was hooked from the very first episode thanks to the driving scene.

I thought it wasn't that good at first on 1st watch.
2nd time through the whole thing was great.

I had seen them posted on Sup Forums too many times before for them to reel me in.

I imagine I would feel the same if I watched it again. It took me a long time to develop any sort of interest in the characters the first time around because for the first 5 or 6 episodes I was being bombarded with new characters and terminology.

I remember people hating this guy despite him being a fucking bro.

that cant be comfortable

Which shirobako would you fuck?

Shirobako had fantastic threads here on Sup Forums and that probably added to the enjoyment for me. It was also very interesting to read reactions from the actual people in the industry on twitter when new episodes aired.

Also Fatalpulse/Asanagi had an autistic meltdown on twitter when Hiraoka got introduced and the anime implied that he knew Yano from the past. Asanagi couldn't stand the thought that Yano might not be pure. The irony was hilarious.

He was a fucking dipshit, it's just the fact that funny story showed up that people started liking him.

Ema after she hasn't showered for 4 days.

I've tried and failed to watch this series many a time, but got bored too early.
Should I just skip to episode 7 and watch then?

Why did they do this anyway? Did her voice actor have stuff going on in the real world or something that interfered with her voice work?

Diesel-san

He's clearly liked to some degree by most people in the office despite their constant complaints about him. He sorta redeemed himself by doing what the others couldn't and bringing glasses-kun into the office fold.

>Ema
Too pure for sex. I doubt she knows what it is.

I'm still not sure whether girls are actually more flexible or if it's a sacrifice they make to look cute

>Should I just skip to episode 7 and watch then?

>Skipping episodes in any show, ever.
That also won't fix your problem.
The first episodes are hard to get into because of the high amount of named characters. If you just skip a few episodes you will still not have learned the names and this will make it hard to enjoy the show.

...

zuka-chan!

Complete oposite for me, the second half of the show was very cringe worthy with all the shitty attempts at comedy, I almost dropped the show when the fat guy had to go and meet the mangaka.

Just force yourself through the first 6 episodes - they are essential for understanding the rest of the series. I think one of the reasons the first 6 episodes lack engagement is because they do a monumental amount of worldbuilding. Once that is all in place, things start moving at a brisk pace and don't really slow down until episode 24.

Not sure. Personally I think they just wanted to make space in the office for the introduction of the new characters (and have a reason for them to be there). And it's not like Erika disappeared completely from that show - there's that scene where she's on the phone while doing laundry.

...

Personally, I could've done with less newbies in the second half, but I don't think either half is superior to the other

Whoever was in charge of clothing design in Shirobako did a god-tier job.

>The first episodes are hard to get into because of the high amount of named characters
I gotta commend them on how they handled that. Having the names hover beside them for more than just the first introduction really helped solidify in my mind the name of each character and their role.

>a fucking bro
To exactly one person out of the entire cast. The rest of the time he was at best contributing the bare minimum to the production and at worst he was actively making things harder for everyone else around him while trying to dodge responsibility for his fuckups.

Reminder that if you can't understand what people hate about Tarou, you're probably a Tarou. I don't think it's right to simply write those kinds of people off and pretend they don't exist since it's a given you're going to run into individuals with his personality type whether you're a student, pursuing a career, or NEETing it up on Sup Forums, so even if you can never manage to like them, you might as well learn to get along (which I guess is why I've yet to filter any tripfags no matter how unpleasant I find them). Just like with Tarou, every once in a while, even the most seemingly shitty of people can manage to contribute something no one else could have.

I think there was one two many. Although I liked them all, I felt like adding both Sara and Tsubaki was a bit much. I was genuinely surprised that Sara was hired considering that Tsubaki's interview left much more of an impression. I felt at one stage that they might do something interesting with Sara's character considering she did not appear at all suited to the job at first, but no - she just adapted rather seamlessly after a few episodes.

>The rest of the time he was at best contributing the bare minimum to the production and at worst he was actively making things harder for everyone else around him while trying to dodge responsibility for his fuckups.
In the first cour, sure. But in the second cour I felt like he was "quietly" getting his work done behind the scenes. There were never any problems with the episodes he was in charge of, and despite having more responsibilities this time around he never seemed to cause any problems in that regard. If he was shit at his job, surely he would have been fired by now?

>Reminder that if you can't understand what people hate about Tarou, you're probably a Tarou
I understand that there is plenty to dislike about Tarou (especially in the first cour), but I don't hate him because I don't believe that he is inherently a bad person.

>you might as well learn to get along (which I guess is why I've yet to filter any tripfags no matter how unpleasant I find them). Just like with Tarou, every once in a while, even the most seemingly shitty of people can manage to contribute something no one else could have.
I feel like there is some bitterness based on real life experiences at play here.

>I almost dropped the show when the fat guy had to go and meet the mangaka.
>I almost dropped the show on the second last episode
Granted a lot of the scenes involving the Director were cringeworthy, but because I considered him to be a good character I was able to tolerate them because they were usually in line with the type of person he had been established to be.

>zuka-chan
I was convinced that they were going to leave her as a cautionary tale of how it is almost impossible to break into the VA scene (like Aoyama in Sakurasou).

>I felt like adding both Sara and Tsubaki was a bit much
Agreed, I understand their purpose from a narrative standpoint in that as kouhai characters they allow Aoi to display her growing confidence and competence as a production assistant compared to her role as the newbie in the first cour, but not having their own arcs makes them somewhat less compelling than most of the cast (although to be fair, considering how fuckhuge of an ensemble it is and how many of them actually do get considerable development, I suppose I should just be happy that they're at least likeable).

>I don't believe that he is inherently a bad person
Nor do I, but as you correctly guessed, real life experience has shown me that it doesn't take malicious intent to ruin lives. Tarou's fuckups in the first cour end up getting fixed because Shirobako is an overall idealistic show, but in real life, incidents like that can easily result in companies collapsing and people beyond the individual personally responsible losing their jobs. I don't hate Tarou or people like him because I'm cognizant of the fact that they aren't actively trying to harm others, but I am extremely wary of them and I find their tendency to lack any self-awareness incredibly frustrating as it often leads to an inability to learn from mistakes (though I will applaud Tarou for seemingly managing to buck that particular trend by the second half).

>I suppose I should just be happy that they're at least likeable
To be fair, making a cast that big memorable and likable, while also making them feel like they could be real people is an impressive achievement.

>but I am extremely wary of them and I find their tendency to lack any self-awareness incredibly frustrating as it often leads to an inability to learn from mistakes
I found myself uncertain about Tarou's level of self-awareness throughout the series. I too have known people like him in a professional capacity, and sometimes it's all just an act. Then of course other times they really are just a pain the ass. I could never decide which was the case with Tarou - I longed for a bit more development of his character (as was the case for me with a lot of characters in Shirobako).

Diesel.

I felt so bad for Shizuka when Diesel was basically handed a job while not even really trying for one.

>studying to be a writer at uni
>while comfortably working as a researcher/scene writer at an anime studio
Some people have all the luck. But at least she's good at what she does so I guess she deserves it in that regard.

For me it clicked at 7 and 8. The Ema suffering/Nee-san professional ennui showed actual adult dilemmas you hardly ever find in anime.

Hi

Best girl with best fashion sense.

I imagine the appearance of "Kanno" provoked quite a reaction on Sup Forums.

>The Ema suffering/Nee-san professional ennui showed actual adult dilemmas you hardly ever find in anime.
Yep, this was the arc that convinced me that this was show worth sticking with. I loved watched Ema improve as the series progressed.

Hi 2.0

Funny story, I really enjoyed this show.

...

>Funny story
What did his verbal tick literally translate as, can anybody remember?

good series

weird story/topic

Diesel-san.

I wish she would generally manage me.

...

>tfw no decent fan art for the vast majority of the bakos

The whole kurobako thing was glorious. It`s rare when Sup Forums enjoys the show this much.

We live in an unfair world Oi-chan.

There was enough

Alcohol is the only salvation.

>tfw no figures for the vast majority of the bakos

Just enough

Enough...

Loved that shit from episode 1 despite a pretty long and a bit too "shoujo"-esque introduction.

There's plenty of lewds, just very little cute stuff.

Even on the boorus, there are relatively few pages for the series as a whole. Considering the number and variety of girls in the show, I expected more would come in the months following the show airing.

He held on to the pure for quite some time, but then broke down as well.

Been a while since I last checked pixiv. 2chan seems to still have constant Shirobako threads

>that pairing
That's gonna be some high impact fucking.

Those two were the best once Tarou unfucked Hiraoka.
In fact, Tarou was a really fun character, especially in the second cour.

>You called?

>no decent fan art for the vast majority of the shiroborings
gee, one can only wonder why

>You called?
I watched that scene 5 times in a row when I first watched Shirobako. I know Tarou can be annoying as fuck and certainly deserves the shit he gets from his colleagues, but how anybody can hate him is beyond me.

>the shiroborings
Been a while since I heard that phrase - it never really made any sense to me.

>it never really made any sense to me
That's great that you love it too much to understand why so many don't. Now go make us some cute fanart of these cute babes.

Everybody liked it when it was airing OP. EVERYBODY

I love this shirt.

>you will never attend an after production party
Probably for the best to be honest.

He's only annoying in the first cour but even then, he reminds me of me because we've all done fuckups in our job experiences at some point so I absolutely can't hate him. That said, the Ema early fuck up hit a little too close to home.

...

>That said, the Ema early fuck up hit a little too close to home.
Which one was that again?

>lipstick
WHORE!

...

But Oi-chan might be in there

Yeah, but my autism would cause me to ruin the entire mood somehow.

Took me 8 episodes to actually get hooked but I don't regret it

>ywn learn about 3rd generation jets with Diesel-chan

Who is she, Sup Forums?

Back when Ema did sloppy job because she wasn't good enough to draw both good and fast and had to rush shit. As a result, she got some little life lessons from the old dude and Iguchi.

The episode where she screwed up came at a perfect time when I completely messed up in my assignment and got actually depressed about it too so it hurt quite a bit.

Guess I have to watch it then
One thing less on my backlog

But what does that have to do with Tarou? Your previous post implied that he was responsible somehow.

There's a bunch of animators in there, you'd fit in just fine. And Oi-chan is used to dealing with autists (see: Tarou)

It's the same thing: fuckups done by an inexperimented cast. Tarou had nothing to do with it.

...

Does anybody have that image that displays the earnings of all the characters?

I meant "inexperienced". Fuck, I'm too tired.

...

I hate how they'd rather make a cheap clone than make a proper prequel or sequel

>student earns more than an animator
Jesus, no wonder the industry is struggling to find good animators (provided that chart is any way representative of reality).

How do you live off $9400 a year?

What are you referring to?

>5m2 single room apartment
>eat plain rice with cheap veggies for all meals
easy!

Diesels VA still hasn't voiced an idol yet. I'm mad!

What age is Rinko?

Jesus, and I thought my life was depressing. I guess it must be worth it if you're doing what you love though.

Speak for yourself

I was hoping Zuka-chan would be a good suffering character, but there was nowhere near enough suffering for my liking.

>you will never welcome Aoi-chan home from work with a fresh-cooked meal
>you will never sit in your cozy apartment after dinner, drinking beer and watching her anime air
>you will never listen to her complain about Tarou's stupid antics
>you will never hear about all the juicy gossip at MusAni
>you will never creep up behind her and start kissing the back of her neck
>you will never make drunken, sloppy love to Aoi before falling asleep in her bed
>you will never wake up to see Aoi scrambling out of your apartment because she needs to get to work
>you will never wait until she's gone, then post all her gossip online

Is that a stitch? Because her legs look really long in that shot

>you will never wait until she's gone, then post all her gossip online
Miyamori is pretty smart, user. She will quickly find out that it was you. And then she will tell Erika. And then you'll be dead.

That's what happens when people are chasing their dreams rather than thinking about their finances. I bet there are some people that would be willing to pay for for the option to work on their favorite franchises.

I have a feeling I'd die happy.
