At least Guts himself looks way, way better now. There's a few scenes where he actually looks pretty great, CG or no. The camera work is still pretty abrupt, but this first episode is better than most of S1. Lots of 2D, too, and it looked great. Pretty excited for the rest honestly.

I'm actually really happy with how this season looks so far. S1 was so bad I quit half way through, but I think they've really learned from their mistakes this time around. I feel a lot of the opinions like this are either people being unable to wash out the rotten taste the first season left them with and letting it blind them to the improvements, or people who just want it to be as bad as the first season because of how entertaining it was watching that train wreck.

Corkus was one of the most level headed people in the entire group. Sure he was a cunt that got people killed and wounded and a bit of a coward and a faggot but he hit it on the head here. He was such a shitbag because life in general treats people that way. He was just being pragmatic and realistic in the face of what everyone else perceived as day to day life. Guts is above this because he is the MC of a mango but if you were in his shoes.

I mean, it's nearly my favorite arc but all it really does for the plot is explain how Guts could be weak enough to get caught by the Holy See. (Other than subtle character development, whose importance is harder to evaluate.)
