shading was superfluous wasteful nonsense

You are fucking retarded.

Must be working because i don't want to fuck any of the things on the left.

>posts manga for whatever reason

Manga shading is as good as ever, so I agree. What a stupid addition.

In the trash where it belongs.

>sensui
90s designs were so better than the current moeshit we get now!

tell me what shading would add to the one on the right

No, you are.

>uses 2 manga panels as an example of anime

Agreed, Maid Dragon is hot dogshit and will be forgotten soon enough.

Absolute retard.

If only anime could look this good now.

Maid Dragon shading is simple but fine.

Also in terms of manga, you need to be extra careful with shading because it's not "just" shading. Excessive details make a panel extreme dark and it is said every line added to a characters face adds a year.

Right is better.

epic low post quality

Welcome to 10+ years ago, OP.

Happy?

I know, right? Look at how boring and flat this recent anime is.

Forgot to post the boring moeshit image.

Kabaneri is a recent example of how shading can improve visual style. The plot was not so great, however.

SHADING IS GOOD!
DETAIL IS GOOD!
WE WANT OUR QUALITY BACK, DAMMIT!
THE 5 TONE TEIKOKU IS OUR ONLY HOPE!

>goddes who smells of trash
That's not nice, Momiji is a cute girl who smells fine.

...

Look at this crap. Are today's animators even trying?

Hokuto no Ken art was fantastic.

nice posercore thread

Rember the only way we got her back is to dunk her in a landfill.

I mean really. Why can I not see every single line on his face? It just seems lazy.

how did we go from this

TO THIS???

Its faster to make and animate something that has only a base color and 1 shade. So we can shit out series every season instead of putting a lot of time and money into only one show.

We evolved

>80's and 90's
>shit
>Current
>also shit
see a pattern?

Who are you quoting?

Who are you replying to?

Dragon Maid is a light show that doesn't know extensive shadows for dramatization.

Why are you posting?

DBS' characters have most of the time a 3 tone shading but it looks like shit because of color palette and shitty highlights.

...

Who are you?!

it all went into the eyes clearly

...

Who am i?

It's a budget thing.

the collective sexual tastes of anime viewers have matured
wise men are the ones who appreciate kanna's thicc loli butt

I dunno man, I think the combination of shoestring budgets and digital animation have led companies to draw things as simply and cheaply as possible. Take Dragon Ball Super for example; comparing almost any screenshot to its predecessors is just fucking embarrassing. There's so much more detail that it's hard to believe it's even the same series. Even GT is in a different league than this garbage.

>shoestring budgets
>draw things as simply and cheaply as possible
user, this has dominated the anime industry since the 60s.

OP is a shitposter but I feel his pain. I watched Do you remember love for the first time last night and my god that mecha porn is gorgeous. Scifi just isn't the same without shading. Although moe shows from Kyoani feel like they need to be done in digipaint to get that comfy feel.

meant to post this whoops

Oh look, one of THESE threads.

mandatory images incoming, you dumb/a/sses

...

...

Holy shit, it's like you have no idea how anime are actually produced.
It has nothing to do with budget or digital animation. DBS suffers from having next to none pre-production, shitty characters designs and a shortage of animators. The pre-production thing screwed the scheduling up, considering how bad the situation behind the scene and the rigid characters sheets no good freelance animators want to work on it. That's why you have the same guys drawing the shows every four weeks.

> shading

This is the wrong context to frame this. The shading was the result of using film cells and drawing directly onto those. This was naturally darker due to the physical limitations of cellophane, lending itself to a grittier/darker style of shows. It made economic sense, since it saved on paints and lighting.

The development of digital drawing and the processes to support it resulted in cleaner, more precise coloring and shading. It also allows for a much fuller range in color, so you'll see something like Nichijou or Kobayashi with bright or pastel designs that would have been extravagant decades ago.

Even then, there is quality animation both then and now. It's not forgotten or old, it's just changed.

I can cherrypick, too, faggotus.

Thanks for the info, dont know much about actual animation in japan so this is pretty nice.

...

Good. Now let's see how much motion they had in them.

best one in the thread, every time

Alright

I can relate more to >now than I ever could.

Whatever, the bottom doesn't even look bad. Just go to youtube and watch ANY scene from Super right after watching something from Z. I admit a lot of these images are cherrypicking, but if you seriously think Super is even in the same league as previous series you're in some deep fucking denial.

Sauce? Shigurui?

if you seriously think Z is not chock full of QUALITY versus current series you're in some deep fucking denial about how lazy Toei is

haha

Too hot for me.

Cherry Picking, the Thread

they traded off shading and misc artistic detail for more actively animated scenes sparsely separated by scenes consisting of long stills

maid dragon btfo

Lol wut

Literally the only thing I've seen about this series are gifs of the one girl almost cumming from just being in contact with the girl with no facial expression.

I was not expecting fight scenes of this caliber.

dude dbz lmao

STOP REPLYING TO OBVIOUS BAIT THREADS

The fucking 1996 image is better so what's even your point?

ITT: Cherrypicking

Every decade has their fair share of gorgeous-looking anime and tons of QUALITY shit, there's no point in fighting since this is an unwinnable argument.

sage

Kaiji is not "now" anymore, it's a decade old, Haruhi is even older

that's the haruhi movie, which was released in 2010

>now

you are aware that this animation is good and fluid?

OP is a retard but there is nothing wrong with Sensui's design

>reverts to 2-tone shading for scenes with animation

>shadeposting

Thankfully we have WIT saving anime.

>nostalgia fucklord thread

Fool.

Man Toguro had some absolutely gnarl gains.

Still don't fully understand his motivations and why he thought he deserved to be tortured for like a million years.

>declaring sage
>2017

Obligatory

what's the bottom picture on the left from anyway

i've seen all the other ones

Dark scenes used to look so much better, I find it hard to even see much at all in modern stuff.

That's from the same show. Same episode even.

>manime shading vs moeshit
