What's Sup Forums's favourite movie of theres? Come on, I know you've got at least one.

Ivan's Childhood

Ever notice how all of Ghibli's more contemporary movies detailing how life in Japan sucks ass are the least popular(except Grave of the FF)

Kaguya no Hime obviously.

Only Yesterday

The studio would be better off without Miyazaki.

Spirited Away :^)

I just watched this for the first time a week ago. The animation was incredible, but I felt the story dragged on for too long. If it weren't as beautiful as it was I think I would have gotten bored with it. I'm glad I stuck with it though, cause that ending tore me right to shreds.

Speaking of which does anybody happen to have webms of Kaguya?

I know we are supposed to be contrararian here but Mononoke Hime hands down. Every time the main theme plays I get chills.

Your Name

You deserve to be stoned for posting :^)

but you also have quality taste, so this time, it's a pass

> Sup Forums's favorite

Porco Rosso, Nausicaa, Castle in the Sky, either Only Yesterday or Kiki's Delivery Service, depending on the day

Spirited Away for babby's first animu.

Princess Mononoke for hippies.

Howl's Moving Castle for fujoshits.

My Neighbor Totoro for pedos.

Grave of the Fireflies for "Takahata > Miyazaki" faggots.

Castle of Cagliostro for oldfags.

Shit taste for everyone else.

Marnie.
But I also loved The Cat Returns, Spirited Away, and Mononoke Hime.

they're all good, but howl's moving castle is more so

all :^) are ironic.

Kiki, Laputa and Whispers of the Heart are my favorites.

spirited away is the best and anyone who says otherwise is trying too hard to be a contrarian

Mononoke Hime is my favorite animation of all time. The rest of the Ghibli movies are hit or miss but that one is like my ideal

Ironic shitposting etc.

everything is ironic :^)

I'd tend to agree with you.
Maybe only because it's the first Ghibli I've ever watched, but it's certainly still my favorite even now.

Porco Rosso might actually hold second place tied with Spirited Away. I don't think I could make a list more complete than that.

My favourites are Totoro and Wind Rises. Miyazaki is my favourite director. All his movies, Takahata's + Kondo's (rip) are excellent. Everything else is pretty "standard" as far as animovies go.

Mayba Kiki's Delivery Service.
I know we shit on them here, but they do make comfy movies with nice art.
Is that new?

>ghibli's last film
>miyasaki is working on shitty shorts now
how will i live without ghibli movies Sup Forums?, might as well kill myself

2015, so relatively new.

hippyfag reporting in

>sad, socially awkward tomboy artist strikes up friendship with qt blonde gaijin who lives in a mansion
>falls in love with her only to realize she's her grandma and watch as she is NTR'd by her grandpa.

Its like /u/'s worst nightmare. I loved it personally though.

Oldfag here

I'm a baby hippie, apparently.

I'm an oldfag fujoshit with shit taste it seems.

Nausicaa. bawled like a bitch when i first watch that shit

>only to realize she's her grandma
Hmm.
Ghost or time shenanigans?

What about Kaguya or Umi ga Kikoeru?
Your list is shit, SHIT!

Chill, we already have the first "totally not Ghibli!" movie coming out.

Read the manga next, you'll cry twice as hard.

both, actually.
Also, way to make my use of spoilers completely useless user.

How do you say "Ghibli"?
Giblee?
G-hi-blee?
Jiblee?

I could agree with that. Being an adaptation of a folk tale the story and characters are really simplistic, and it doesn't really have the nuance that drives his other movies. Still a great film though, excellent in most ways.

i heard about ponoc, how much of the staff do they share with old ghibli?, because if trigger and wit tell me something, is that is not going to be the same

This. Takahata is better than Miyazaki anyways

>Miyazaki
Tie between Porco Rosso and The Wind Rises
>Takahata
Only Yesterday
>Others
The Cat Returns and From Up on Poppy Hill

>Kaguya
"Takahata > Miyazaki" faggots
>Umi ga Kikueru
Hipsters

>is not going to be the same
That's what I hope. Yonebayashi is talented, I don't want to see hiim living in Miyazaki's shadow forever. Ponoc seems the best outcome, not such a drastic cut and still the possibility for more freedom and something new.

>From Up on Poppy Hill
Ew

It was good.

>redhead
>twintails
>thick eyebrows
>blue eyes
>pyromaniac witch

How did Yonebayashi develop such incredible waifu game?

It was better than Earthsea at least.

Horus: Prince of the Sun

>ghibli

...

Hotaru no haka

That's not an high bar.
I laughed when the guy said about the possibility of incest: "It's like we are in some cheap melodrama" because it was surprisingly self aware.

1. Only Yesterday
2. The Tale of Princess Kaguya
3. My Neighbors the Yamadas

It use to be Mononoke, but I really like Howl's Moving Castle now.

>Castle of Cagliostro for oldfags.

my dad showed that to me when I was like 4 or so, always stuck with me,

I don't like anything by studio ghibli. it's all boring moeblob garbage

This. It's one of the most spellbinding animated films because of just how little you expect of it when you first watch it and let it slowly take its pace. It's no wonder it was one of the highest grossing movies in Japan at the time with the biggest demographic being older adults.

It's not a perfect movie by any means, however it is memorable because of an easy to relate tale of being an adult in conflict with what they expect from childhood.

I'm in my mid 40s and the themes in the movie still resonate strong.

Princess Mononoke = Castle in the Sky > Nausica >>> The Cat Returns > Everything Else

This post was by a cuck who unironically enjoys Ninja Scroll

I bet you think kimi no na shit is a masterpiece.

Fair enough. I enjoyed the ambience of post-war Japan well enough to last me through the duration.

Ponyo a best. Fight me.

Only Yesterday literally gave me an existential crisis.

What would I stand to gain by fighting a man of such refined taste?

The mom is the only Ghibli character I permit myself to fap to, so there's that.

>3. My Neighbors the Yamadas
Solid choice user. Also very underrated. 10/10 OST in that film as well.

Weird fact about Takahata films:

Pom Poko made 4 billion yen in the box office
Kaguya made 2.5 billion yen in the box office
Only Yesterday made 1.8 billion yen in the box office
Grave of the Fireflies made 500 million yen in the box office

It's a complete reversal as to how popular his films are today.

The childhood flashback vignettes and the subtle way they even portray exaggerated emotional outbursts gave me the feels.

Gotta give it the director and his choices. Those weird, ugly facial expressions actually added a lot of depth to the way you feel for the characters. I'm amazed no one else has emulated this.

When Marnie Was There for sure

1. Only Yesterday
2. Porco Rosso
3. Kaguya
4. Totoro
5. Kiki

r8 my taste

8/10 years old.

1. Whisper of the Heart (Nostalgia)
2. Howl's Moving Castle
3. Porco Rosso

That Grave number is actually a combined total with Totoro too, isn't it? Crazy how big they'd become.

It's interesting because the original manga was only the childhood scenes. Takahata seriously is a master at creating a greater story, while adapting the original source material as well.

>1. Only Yesterday
Cool that so many in Sup Forums regard this film highly in the Ghibli collection. Glad to see you guys actually give a shit about things that make your heart tug instead of just your dick.

I mean, there aren't really any dick-tugging Ghiblies.
Besides Sosuke's mom, I mean.

>It's interesting because the original manga was only the childhood scenes

This is actually quite fascinating, thanks. Never knew that.

Also, how many of you guys think Only Yesterday had one of the best endings ever?
Even though it's out of nowhere, the last 3-4 minutes exhilarate me the same way as some of the best hollywood blockbusters

>Ctrl+f
>Only one result for Ponyo

It's shit after all. Pretty shit, but shit nonetheless.

Ponyo was a let down. It's just an overly expensive, beautifully drawn weekend Saturday morning cartoon show.

It's cute as hell, almost saccharine. The story is pretty shallow though. One of Ghibli's weaker works unfortunately.

Ponyo is god-tier.

That's because it's a literal masterpiece.

>that father slap scene

Very close to my list.
Nice job, user, you have certified Good Taste™ as verified by me.

...

I can respect Ponyo as one of the greatest children's movies ever made, but I am not a child and therefore don't feel like I get as much out of it as a 5-12 year old would. It doesn't really have the same crossover appeal that Ghibli's other kid-friendly movies do.

Porco Rosso. Comfiest movie of all time

Salò or The 120 Days of Sodom

Gay

This. It and the Wind Rises are the best things to come out of Ghibli in over a decade, but everyone on both sides of the world seems to have brushed over it entirely.

I'd say nausicaa for hippies.

1. Laputa
2. Porco Rosso
3. The wind rises

Princess Mononoke. I like oldschool adventures, and the BGMs carried it well.

Shit movie

My mans. How can one movie be so perfect?

Porco Rosso is genuinely Miyazaki's magnum opus.

Guess I have shit taste since I like both Only Yesterday and Whisper of the Heart.

I was disappointed. This shitty movie dealed with loneliness worse than fucking Eva. Only /u/ fags like it.

Kiki and Mononoke.

Whisper of the heart

the cat returns

Whisper of the heart is my favorite movie of all time tbqh
