Hideo Kojima Criticizes Ghost in the Shell (2017)

Long story short, he liked the homages it had to previous works, but overall felt that it fell short and missed the point of what made them great.

>no mention of the whitewashing
Why is Kojima so racist?

If he ever gets into anime, what genre should he direct?

Mecha

hes a westaboo

Horror. Call it Quiet Mountain or something

Poor Kojima.

Speaking of Kojima, mecha, and anime, how good is the Zone of the Enders anime? I saw Idolo and thought it was pretty good, but what about Dolores?

To his defense, Rupert Sanders directing was the bigger problem than ScarJo.

Thanks for reminding me. Fuck Konami.

This is the same guy who endorsed Under the Dog.

What's so bad about Under the Dog? It's not like it was Devil's Legacy?

he was pretty typical in that Japaneses diplomatic sorta way. He could have said a whole lot worst, but he focused on the stuff he generally likes about the series.

what he says has been repeated by plenty of critics and most OG fans.

He never ACTUALLY did any horror before, so we cant say if it would be good (probably would though)

He has plenty of experience with mechas, and thematics about war, humanity and the human mind. He also has an autistic attention to details.

Hell, give him the final eva rebuild, he probably can salvage it.

MGS2 was unironically deeper than evangelion and its themes are so relevant specially these days.

literally WHO

t. braindead moron

And on your way out, take the JoJo casuals and Steins;Gate retards with you.

Kojima didnt write MGS2 alone. He is kinda like george lucas (except not as bad), when given too much power kinda fucks up.

Kojima is great at directing and reforcing the themes he wants (in mgs2, the use of information, social cues, and the knowledge of the human mind to manipulate individuals)

When he is just plain writing, we get stuff like MGSV with the twist visible from a mile, and MGS4 retconing every interesting magic in the setting into nanomachines.

fun/10

be nice user, I'm sure he meant "especially these days"

Because he can actually think for himself.

why are you so mad?

It doesn't even register to his mind as an issue, because it isn't.

Which is better than Live action GITS which Oshii endorsed

MGS2 is, without exaggeration, the only reason why Kojima still gets praised as a visionary and whatnot. Thematically and story-wise, his games have devolved into braindead garbage starting with MGS3.

So it's a project somehow happened without people really looking deep into it.
Critically acclaimed source material + ScarJo + cult like fans, should guarantee huge success, right?
But if they really think about it the thing was doomed.
Visually it can only hope to match the anime, it can never surpass the anime, because anime wasn't restricted by the technology of CG.
Plot wise if it followed the original anime film it would turn away people who are interested in receiving a philosophy lecture in a theater, and it would bring nothing new.
Dumbing it down while keeping its "soul" intact would require some brilliant writing, which Hollywood is rarely interested in paying money for. And people with that kind of talent would be writing their own stuff.
The best outcome they could get is just "decent". Which is what they got. I suppose they should be applauded for not turning it into a total trash, but ultimately this will be forgotten.

is he alright

MGS2 and EVA are both completely different so you can't really compare them.
MGSV's story and themes could've been more fleshed out had Konami not screwed him over. And as for the nanomachines in MGS4, while Ocelot did use them as well as psychotherapy to gain the Liquid persona, remember that his father was The Sorrrow, who could conjure and speak with the dead. So it's quite possible that Ocelot's use of the psychotherapy and nanomachines triggered latent ESP abilities that allowed him to be possessed by Liquid's ghost.

The fact that they got that incompetent turd Rupert Sanders to direct is proof that Hollywood intentionally wanted it to flop as a tax writeoff.

because it was a non-issue compared to the other problems with the film.

MGS3 was fun tho

he's never been better
his own independent studio, tons of money from sony, full access to the decima engine, and most importantly free from the kike clutches of konami.

Rich Kojima.

Not that guy, but the story and characterization in MGS4 has a laundry list of problems even without the nanomachines bullshit.
>nonsensical, incredibly forced Bible stuff in Chapter 3
>the whole Patriots story and themes from MGS2 reduced to "broken AI"
>unbelievably shitty Otacon/Naomi romance
>Snake and Raiden getting character assassinated and forgetting all the lessons they learned in MGS2
>everything about the B&B unit
>Mt. Snakemore
And it goes on and on. MGS4 is incredibly, mindbogglingly stupid on every single level.

>Long story short, he liked the homages it had to previous works, but overall felt that it fell short and missed the point of what made them great.
Sounds like an MGS5 review

Fun, yes. But remarkably dumb, especially coming after MGS1 and MGS2. It was also lazily done, if you expect any attention to real-world detail. Fun fact: both the setting and 99% of the "Russian" text you see in the game make absolutely no sense. The Soviet Union and especially Russia don't have any region with ecology even vaguely resembling anything shown in MGS3. Even worse, everything Russian is pretty much just letter salad or Babelfished words randomly glued together.
