Been told all my life by my grandmother that mom and I were part Cherokee which is why we are dark complected. After grandma passed away I became curious as to how much I had in me since she was adopted and we had no records of family history on her. So I did an ancestry dot com DNA test a month ago, just got the results in... turns out, I am 13% "middle eastern..." not a drop of Indian at all... my uncle, by strange coincidence, also had an account there and I could see that he didn't have this designation in his DNA regions. I put two and two together and realized that mom must have had a difference dad than her brothers did, a mystery man who was at least half Iraqi or Arabic or something...
As I read my results I just got this sick feeling in the pit of my stomache... I am 85% white, but I always took pride in my non-white blood before as I believed it belonged to proud race of shamanic warriors whose bones lay interred in the soil of the American continent. Growing up we had dreamcatchers and paintings of Crazy Horse all over the walls. Never lived on rez but been to some pow wows. Come to find out it was all a lie, just a family legend to explain to my mother why she looked different from the other kids.
I feel like my culture and heritage has been stolen away. Can anyone relate to this feel?

You don't own any of the glory or accomplishments of your race just for being born. You lost nothing.

I've got possible native blood in me. Had an ancestor that sold his native wife for a barn back in the old days, also I seen a photo of my grandmother back in the 20's with her grandmother who was native looking.

I wish I had Native American ancestry. I always want to be at least 80% white and have 20% other cool shit like Japanese or Mongolian or Native etc... >100% Western European Feelsbadman, you mutts are lucky

Certain benefits. "Degree" of Native American ancestry can give you the following: - certain casino-owning tribes or tribes where their land is being used for money (or the gov't declares their land as protected and gets money for conservation efforts) will share profits with you (albeit not much) - benefit from gov't initiatives to help Injuns (especially if you're the Listerine-abusing kind) - race card to play (for whatever purpose, even financial gain) as some poor Injun who got their lands stolen by the Hwyte Man (gives you the dual race identity; like how the filthy Jews can claim to be white or Jew, depending on which identity benefits them the most at a particular time)
