Pre-2000 anime thread. What are you watching, Sup Forums?

I decided to start some obscure /m/ show called Plawres. The synopsis makes it sound like Custom Robo, which I'm all for.

>Pre-2000
Should have made that pre-1995 so that this thread doesn't get ruined by post-EVAshit.

How's Mirai Keisatsu Urashiman, by the way?

Finally! Been waiting for this thread for ages!

Working on Initial D lately, saw Third Stage, the movie, last night. I think the best so far was the first season, I liked the romance and really exciting races. By the end of season 2 it was starting to piss me off how they constanty reset all romantic development, it was cool and artistic in season 1 but in season 2 I had enough. Glad they fixed one of the relationships in the movie.
I also want more of the girls, especially the girl, they were some of my favourites, but seems they were only a one off thing.

I also saw the first two episodes of The Mysterious Cities of Gold last week. It seems pretty good so far, could be interesting to watch. I didn't really plan to watch any 80s TV anime yet, I thought it was French so it was okay, but oh well. Will probably finish it eventually, but will take some time. May use it as my streaming anime, that I only watch when I only have streaming avaible.

Besides those two, I haven't seen that much anime lately, and especially not old anime- oh right, I saw an episode of Turn A Gundam yesterday. Would be nice to finish it, but I'm being slow.

Still only thinking about finishing Rose of Versailles, and also been more tempted to pick up Akage no Anne lately.

And kinda saw a few episodes of Lain, but not as a part of actually rewatching it. Real masterpiece.

Does Joe from Ashita no Joe ever stop being an unbearable edgelord?

>Plawres Sanshiro
Watched several episodes of it a few days ago. Was surprised at the amount of /ss/ in it

Project A-ko sucks. It's boring and annoying. Very overrated anime

I was really hoping for a plawres sanshiro reference in build fighters but it didn't happen I don't think. Missed opportunity.

Currently dipping into mecha, so I decided to start with Tetsuwan Atom, Tetsujin 28-go, and Gundam 0079.

Bring back big hair

0079 is still the best Gundam series. I don't know that they'll ever top it at this point. Turn A comes close though.

I'm really enjoying it so far. I'm looking forward to exploring the rest of the franchise.

This.

>Plawres Sanshiro in the OP
Nice. Are there any better quality rips available? Been a while since I've watched.

The best rips are right here:
bakabt.me/130021-plawres-sanshiro-plastic-model-wrestling-sanshiro-divx-h264-animeclipse.html

I downloaded the [AnimeClipse] Plawres Sanshiro 7 gb release.

Getting back into Initial D and planning to watch Urusei Yatsura afterwards. Although the episode count is kind of intimidating.

How does this make you feel?

youtube.com/watch?v=cDMYiWIqzek

I started watching Maison Ikkoku. I hate Godai's neighbors more than I've ever hated anyone. They're all irredeemable scum.

In case anyone didn't hear, the character designer for Daitarn 3 and VOTOMS (among others), Norio Shioyama, died in a freak house fire today.

>By the end of season 2 it was starting to piss me off how they constantly reset all romantic development
That shit still happens well into 5th Stage. I have no idea why Shigeno hates the idea of having his characters in stable romantic relationships.
>I also want more of the girls, especially the girl, they were some of my favourites, but seems they were only a one off thing.
Extra Stage 1 (and to a lesser extent 2) focus on Mako and Sayuki.

This

Well shit.

Ruroni Kenshin
I have found the origin of chuuni retardation
also,
ARARARARARA
*bizarre honking noises*

I couldn't get through much of Ruroni.

Speed racer

take a shot every time he says "gozaru" and it's a lot more interesting

>Been waiting for this thread for ages!
I don't see why you need to wait. Anyone can make a thread.

Slayers is one of my favourite anime and I can't think of a female protagonist I like better than Lina

>tfw I forgot to download patlabor
>bakabt is fucking dead to me

>bakabt
Not funny, user.

>old anime thread
>after bakabt going nuclear
why do you have to be like this, OP?

Lum and Ataru pilot a mecha? Cool!

nope

agree with this, it's an overrated anime in the west because it was one of the rare things available on VHS before the internet

What's wrong with nyaa you faggots

no long term seeders

unless you're looking for really obscure shit this isn't a problem at all

Watching War in the Pocket and Stardust Memory. People saying UC is good are retarded but it's still better than the rest of the shit series.

Takumi's new bitch was better. Mogi was a prostitute. It was just subtle.

>garbage ex boyfriend swho are rape mode
>"escort"

into the garbage.

The point of initial D is all the bitches are dumb. Cars are better to focus your mental and physical time into

>those sluts who "needed" each other to race because women can drive because they can't process multiple factions of information at once
>Golftism slapped a random stranger because of second hand gossip
>mogi a literal hoe and used goods
>Kazumi a deceptive needy cunt and little brother zoned itsuki, even her own brother doesn't like her
>Kaori an heroes and makes a literal monster because wahh my fee fees i wont tell anyone about
>Takumi has no mother

Racers dont need girlfriends

She was doing enjou kosai which has different connotations in Japan, probably wasn't sexual

Yeah, thats what they tell the cops

I miss 80s anime girls

I'm almost finished with Lain.

It's not very good.

My nigga.

1998 anime:
>Masterpiece
- Kare Kano
- Serial Experiments Lain
- Cardcaptor Sakura
>Good
- Initial D
- Princess Nine
- Record of Lodoss War
- Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou
>Okay/meh
- Outlaw Star
- Magical Stage Fancy Lala

>Haven't finished, but probably low
- Cowboy Bebop
- Brain Powerd

Same here, tried to DL galaxy fraulein yuna

orz

Still one of my favorites

I don't really know why I started watching this. It's alright, relaxing enough to watch while browsing Sup Forums.

Galaxy Fraulein Yuna can be downloaded from the E-D|Mashiro bot on IRC.

These threads used to be pre 1990s. Wow

All the shilling and shitting of the new GitS movie on Sup Forums motivated me enough to check out the 1995 anime and I loved it. The drawing style and the soundtrack create an amazing atmosphere. I'll try watching other 90s animes drawn in a similar style before my depression kicks in again.
Post 2000, but related. A good friend of mine showed me Innocence some years ago, but I didn't really appreciate it at the time. I rewatched it and understood the plot better.

Not for a really long time at least, like years.
It's probably time to make them pre-2010 soon

Same but he needs to stop being such a god damn pushover. Anyways, I'm almost done with the series in with order should I watch the OVA's and film?

Watched Metal Skin MADOX-01 a week or so ago.

Same for me with urusei yatsura
I downloaded the LRE rip up to ep 77 and now I cant finish it

Wait a minute
The tracker started working again a few seconds ago
Why?

Apologize for this double-post, but I'm currently watching the original Dancouga.

Is this show supposed to be funny? Because I have a feeling I should be taking the drama seriously.

Why aren't you downloading kagura instead?

Brain Powerd is fucking amazing. It's like mainlining the essence of Tomino right into your blood stream.

Isn't that that huge 1080p remaster?
If yes then it's to big for my taste
I wouldn't know where to get it now anyway

For people who have the Lupin season 2 Discotek release, how does the video quality stack up to what's available digitally? I'd hope it's quite a bit better than the shitty cr/horrible release. Is it about as good as the bluray rip, but scaled down for dvd?

Why not just get these then?

nyaa.se/?page=view&tid=836382

BD rips downscaled to 720p and a very reasonable file size. Download the subs separately and you're ready to go.

The franchise is so derivative that it might as well be the only Gundam series.
I liked Turn A a lot, but it still felt like another reskin of 0079. Ever since Zeta they've been recycling the same plot points and character archetypes.

There is very few pre 1990 anime worth watching

Nah, Victory, War in the Pocket, 08th MS were pretty different.

Bullshit

There is plenty great 70s and 80s anime

Like what?

Nah you can look them up yourself.

You are still retarded and new for thinking "very few" are worth watching.

Recently watched the first Patlabor movie. Much less robot-fighty than I expected, much more atmospheric, which I should have seen coming based on the director. I just got a really Tank Police feel from the MC, so I expected more like that. Loved it. Watching the next one next week with some friends.

Disagree, shit's fun.

Versus is pretty meh though.

If we gave you a small list of less than 30 titles you would likely claim that those are the "very few" shows worth watching and all others crap.
If we spent the time to give you a huge list then you simply either ignore it or claim that they aren't "worth watching" without explaining why those anime aren't "worth watching".

>TFW want to watch obscure stuff with no English release

...

>Beebop low
>Lodoss TV high

This is contrarianism if I've ever seen it.

Retard

The rest

Eat-Man '98 was great? Out of curiosity, what makes you say that?

You misspelled Orphen and also it's good.

Oh I was wrong there, '97 was the one that's good. Great music, ambitious directing, lots of little tragedy vignette stories in an interesting setting. I didn't like '98 as much.

6 episodes into Fighter G Gundam, enjoying it so far

Fair enough. I found them both pretty plodding and uninteresting save for a few episodes (and not necessarily because of its lack of action or plot), but I can understand why one would like it. It was certainly unique.

For both Ranma and Maison you watch them in airing order of course. Save the movie for MI for last.

Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Ranma 1/2, Tenchi

I seriously love 0079 even with the bad animation. I haven't seen the movie comps so I don't know what all gets chopped out though. It's my second favorite Gundam series after 0080.

I'm wondering if City Hunter gets better in the second season. First was fun, but kind of got repetitive and the budget wasn't enough to totally compensate. But the OP to 2 looks so amazing it makes me want to commit to finishing the franchise.

Finished Noir. It's 2001, but rooted enough in the late 90s style and production methods to count all the same. Why did this show need to be so good looking, shot on 35mm, and anamorphic 16:9? It was one of the slowest and dullest things I've watched.

Doing Rune Soldier Louie now. It's fun but I can see it getting tiring, but would benefit from gratuitous nudity, especially for the brown muscle chick. Also Kikuko Inoue as some kind of nun.

08th would've been great if it focused solely on the grimy "Gundam in Vietnam" aspect and not the Romeo and Juliet romance.

>house fire takes the VOTOMS character designer
>it took the 0079 composer not too long ago
>Ishinomori died due to a house fire
Is fire to old mangaka what trucks are to able bodied young people in Japan?

Surprising you haven't seen CCS, when you've seen so much and it's such an Sup Forumscore anime.
Oh, and forgot about Ao no 6-gou. I enjoyed it more than Outlaw Star and probably Fancy Lala, but it was pretty forgettable. Either a really weak good or a strong okay.

And watch Princess Nine, it's awesome! I love the eyes of the main character!

Disagree with you on Lodoss though, I really liked it a lot

I wish Dirty Pair had been one of those pet projects that gets revised every decade to see how anime changes and evolves. People used to hate the fuck out of Flash, but that OVA itself is now over 20 years old.

Really sucks, that guy did a ton of great designs (all of the same face of course. Takahashi must be devastated.

0080 is one of the best animated Gundam works ever produced. 0083 is among the worst unless that Wing LN sequel ever gets animated.

They eat fish and live forever, low crime rate, these accidents become so represented.

Have been watching Kodomo no Omocha recently
Finished episode 98 only 4 episodes to go

Goddamn this show is awesome...shame it doesn't adapt the final arc of the manga
And them ending themes/those epic cliffhangers UNFFFF youtube.com/watch?v=qGR9UrmVHG4

They just don't make anime like they used to anymore

You know you have an awesome show at hand when it can randomly turn into a random four minute Charlie Chaplin routine with the main characters and not come off as out of place.

I can recommend the movies even if you've seen the series. The first two aren't too different from the series, just condensed and with some of the more egregious stock footage loops taken out, but the third movie is absolutely amazing and I'd say superior to the final arc of the show. Overall, the series is better I think, but the movies are a much watch as well, if only for Encounters in Space

There's also still a lot of old shitty wooden housing, or houses made from literally dried mud, in Japan.

Re-watching Fist of the North Star, starting Saint Seiya soon

I feel City Hunter S2 is a step up from S1, in particular once the double episode stories become more common than single episodes halfway through.

City hunter music is great in general

The Lodoss OVA was good for sure, TV felt a lot weaker by comparison.

And I'll get to CCS one day, but my backlog of old anime is inhumanly large and there's a good number of other 50+ episodes magical girl shows I'd like to get through first
