This isn't entirely true. Suffolk (the big long red county at the bottom) is pretty heavily populated. Also in the blue areas there are some extremely conservative places, like how Manhattan goes blue while all the businessmen mostly vote red. Electoral college is a trade off between complete popular vote and complete state vote. It kinda makes sense when you think about the composition of US and how the president should be elected. But within a state? What's the purpose? All men are created equal.
