In image yes, in concept, the exact opposite. Values like friendship, love, and loyalty are present in Anime along with respect to tradition and order taken from Japanese culture and philosophy. It's not irrational to believe in both being able to reside within a functioning society. Its the exact reason why we have a functioning society in the first place. People naturally compete, it's the rule of survival, always striving to be the best and take the most to succesfully ensure another generation. No one person can bear to win against everyone in everything, but in the process of competition man evolves and discovers every generating bearing a higher capacity for progress. Like any competition, there are losers, but that does not mean that they deserve contempt and hatred for losing. Within society, everyone has their roles, and with everyone properly functioning within that natural hierarchy, society can progress and the standard of living for the individual can improve. Within that hierarchy, there is nothing that stops the values of love and friendship from forming between individuals. Believing otherwise is like saying a rich woman shouldn't love a poor man, or vice versa solely because society has hiearchy. Between men, friendship can from with mutual respect and admiration for one another along with shared ideals. Even if one were to surpass the other, contempt doesn't have to form. (cont.)

Why people love their "waifu" can be a multitude of reasons. From a logical standpoint, a waifu is the embodyment of a man's ideal woman. Trait's like beauty, strength, intelligence, along with honest love are common with a waifu. The "hurr durr women obey me" argument ignores men's desire for loving companionship. Most men would want a woman who loves them back as a companion, not one who merely exists as a toy. So many turn the chasing the idea of a waifu than a real woman. Why? Because with the current market of women under feminisim, women go from honest people willing to share their life with a man, to self obsessed narcissists only concerned with their self interests and never striving to be better. Men know they'll never be loved by these kinds of women, so they avoid them. But, the need for a companion still exists with men, so as a result they seek plain friendship or chase an ideology or waifu as a replacement.
tl;dr: Love and friendship can exist within an ordered society and some men seek waifus as replacement to real women because waifus are better people in their eyes
