Since in marxist socialism there is no money and all economy is supposed to be ran by goverment, there is no information about the market - prices.
Without that knowledge the state CANNOT KNOW which investments are good, ultimately resulting in a complete and utter failure.

There is no enslavement. The goal is to force unproductive people who get rich off of other's labor to pay their fair share to improve life for the nation.

The problem is not calculating the price of consumer goods, but rather capital goods, where the state is both the buyer and seller. For example, a house will sell for $100k, should you build it out of wood, brick, or steel to maximize value. You can’t tell, profited will be $100k - ?.
To play the devil's advocate, Jeffersonian democracy revealed its flaws in the South.
It basically devolved into familial tribalism - blood feuds and all - where the municipal legal systems benefited aristocratic families over yeoman families, leading to the phenomenon of mob justice (lynching wasn't a racial phenomenon - it was the only truly "democratic" form of justice in the south).

That's not to say I don't admire Jeffersonian democracy. The criminal justice corruption and ensuing loss of faith in the courts are my only real scruples with it.
