What is the most Feminist friendly character in manga or anime?
I don't think it's controversial to say that Anime in general is generally pretty fucking misogynistic and/or has very shallow written female characters that tend to just exist for sex appeal for male audiences and often reinforce traditional Japanese gender roles (often the case in Dramas). So I was thinking out of all of anime, there must be female characters who are strong, brave and yet don't abandon their femininity to resort to misogynistic traits (or just be genderswapped male characters) I think Nausicaa is a character that I would hold up as an incredibly well written Female character, strong, brave yet motherly and caring.
I think many Ghibli females hold up to such a standard (Isao and Miyazaki are both card carrying hardcore feminists and Socialists) but aside from Ghibli what other incredibly well written female characters are out there?

Unironically Panty and Stocking.

The Major is my ideal female character.
I'd also say Kino is pretty well written but she isn't exactly performing her gender throughout the show, her gender doesn't really make a difference one way or the other.
You could also put Utena up there when it comes to challenging gender roles.
Also Fujiko Mine, Akane from Psyco-Pass, Saki from Shinsekai Yori, Ryuuko and Satsuki, Shiki, Maki from Kiznaiver (that show was shit though).

The Major is sexist as fuck. She's designed to pander to the loneliest permavirgins.

The outfit is a sacrifice we have to make in exchange for getting a badass competent female leader.

Her family was a fun little twist, and I appreciate that they didn't make a huge deal out of it.
But judging anime based on thoroughly Western cultural standards is a huge mistake, the modern equivalent of the kind of eurocentrism that surrounds the colonial era.

True, but it has both a point and a reasonable explanation with her character she's meant to look like a whore to have the element of surprise (No one will expect a walking humanoid tank to look like a hooker after all) and she herself doesn't care because she's cyberized to the point that she doesn't feel that's her real body anymore. To her it's no worse than undressing a barbie. You would know this if you actually watched/read the stuff and payed attention, but we all know you're only here to pick our brains you you can have talking points for your little feminazi gatherings, or even more pathetic, to try and prove some cyan-colored, gender-fluid feminazi that your animu hobby is somehow remeemable in her eyes.

Would you count F/Z Saber if you ignored how she was in the rest of the other series?
Nathan Peterson
depends on who you'd ask
some feminists would say that performing your gender and practicing [what we perceive to be] femininity is what it means to be a feminist. others would say that traits we perceive to be femininity/masculinity shouldn't be treated as so, and that we shouldn't label certain traits as feminine or masculine.
there are a lot of different types of feminism, and a lot of overlaps between them all as well. you just gotta pick which one fits you best.

So feminism is like religion.
They divide themselves into different sides and fiefdoms within their own beliefs in order to pander more to each other and to feel superior to other worshipers who pray to the exact same God.
Now that shit makes a lot more sense why they're such a bunch of cunts.
Aiden Baker
Gender and gender roles are the terms that mean's the same thing. Not performing gender is the freedom that feminism was all about before trannies and their stupid ass identities came in.
