Have you watched Oniisama e yet, Sup Forums?
Other urls found in this thread:
Yeah.
I just really remember while watching this show that it if Sup Forums was around when it aired, the threads would have been absolutely insane.
I dropped it when I realized there was no incest or yuri.
I can't seem to really get into Dezaki, but I'll watch it one day.
I was once making good time getting through it, but lost steam at episode 15 when not much was happening. Does it pick up speed after that?
>I can't seem to really get into Dezaki
Space Cobra is a nice starting point, if you don't really like the school-drama setting of Ace and Oniisama e.
Ashita no Joe is good too, but I'd recommend the manga first.
Yes I love it. I wish I knew more shows like it desu. Mariko is cute.
>but I'd recommend the manga first.
Why? Isn't it a pretty faithful adaptation?
Yeah I suppose, but the manga is really the reason why the series is so iconic.
A couple episodes but it was late so I stopped. It's my kind of series though.
>Oniisama
>he never shows up
?
it's in my backlog with 500 other titles. Might be a while
...
?
Not really a spoiler, isn't this revealed in the first couple episodes?
user I'm sure the other things in your backlog can surely wait.
>I'm really my brother's little sister?
>I'm really my sister's little sister?
What a roller coaster of emotions.
Mariko's cute manko!
I've seen Joe, Rose of Versailles and his Golgo and Cobra movies. Cobra I think is what I have most hope for, so I'll check it out next.
Do a rewatch, there have been a few this year already. I forget what the last one was.
The Black Jack OVAs are great too. A lot of diversity with Dezaki. There's something for everyone.
What is Mariko's archetype?
I'd say Mariko is interesting because she is a strange combo of a yandere that becomes tsundere.
Even as a tsundere though she's kind of just a strange aggressive person prone to embarrassment because she is prideful.
Since I've only seen ROV what is the next place to progress too with Dezaki?
Aim for the ace maybe? definitely a step down production wise, but it's one of his most influential shows for directors that succeeded him.
BD worth replacing over the DVD that I think Live Evil or Saizen subbed? Just wondering if there are any scenes which look better in BD format. Also thinking of holding off my watch of Onisama e... until I get more space for the BD. I have the DVD version but some screenshots I've seen of the BD look pretty good.
Aim for the Ace is what, a 70 year old anime? I can't imagine there would be any decent scenes that would look improved over on BD and not look more granulated.
>BD
I didn't even know Ace had a BD, until this post.
I don't know, there's some beautiful watercolor backgrounds in Ace that might look really nice in the BD.
She is only tsundere towards men because they are dirty swine.
Sometimes the dere classifications just don't work because they assume that people behave identically in all social situation.
As for an archetype for Mariko maybe something like The Rich Spoiled Genki Girl? Though I can't think of other examples right now.
Just a reminder that Mariko is a whiny Tumblr whore and that Nanako and Kaoru are better.
She's still a good character, though.
I just found out about Onii sama E's today but its 1080p. I think I can get someone to make a 720p version.
There's a 720p version on nyaa, I just don't really know if the encode is good or not.
Oniisama e since it and RoV have the same mangaka.
I was recommended Oniisama e after watching ROV and felt it was a great show to watch right after.
Same subs as the one on AB but 1/6th the size. Thanks for telling me. I might ask the AB user if they could upload a 720p and compare them.
I'd watch it, but I'm not sure yet because I heard it has yurishit.
Kind of. It's more about the drama though with yuri undertones.
Nah.
The problem with RoV is that it doesn't REALLY get good until Dezaki takes over as director. And that's like more than halfway through the show.
Still a masterpiece though.
Why is she so smug?
Not yet but it's on my backlog so it's only a matter of time
That's a lie.
The first half of the show is great. Dezaki just makes it even better.
It's great if you like stupid Antoinette drama and boring Rosalie, sure.
>a matter of time
Make it today.
>only actual lesbian dies for literally no reason in an unintentionally hilarious scene
>every other girl acts like a raging dyke for 40 episodes but then LOL it was just a phase, we're all straight!
Classic shoujo is trash.
Oh, that's good to know. Thanks anons.
>no reason
Miya would've never come around to abolish the Sorority otherwise.
Why is the OST so good?
I recall reading somewhere that Shiro Sagisu did the soundtrack.
>they're all straight
I'm 15 episodes through and what the fuck.
Dropped.
It was Kentaro Haneda.
This series looks so good.
>Antoinette drama
I'd hardly call drama where the fate of nations is at stake "stupid". Plus, the show pokes fun at how melodramatic Antoinette can be through Oscar's reactions.
>Rosalie
The Polignac and Jeanne arcs would be far less interesting without her involvement in them.
Visually, it's definitely Dezaki's magnum opus. I'm glad there's a BD finally.
Gonna have to do a rewatch then.
I guess it's really just a matter of opinion. I mean I didn't hate RoV prior to Dezaki, I just found myself blown away when he took over for that first episode.
It just proves that he's an insanely talented director when compared to episodes before.
How did Dezaki pull these visuals off?
I know there were a lot of still frames, but that can't explain everything.
Was he given a large budget or was he just that good at allocating resources?
This is the one anime that made me as happy as Utena. I tried other Ikuhara works, RoV, and Eva (because people told me it was like a male version of Utena) but this had everything I loved about Utena and more.
The only flaw is that the pretty sorority sisters like Mona Lisa no Kimi didn't get that much screentime until they started going crazy.
>Eva (because people told me it was like a male version of Utena)
Never insult Utena like that again.
My notes say I've had it on hold at episode 24 since November 1999.
Probably need to finish that off at some point.
Black Jack is where it's at. Too bad the most recent ova sucked.
Please dont start this.
Especially since the creators themselves love and are inspired by each other's work.
Cause I looked up the ending and it sounded dumb.
>stupid Antoinette drama
I love every second of it. Bourgeoisie bullshit is my shit.
It is really weird. Remi and Treasure Island look lightyears ahead of everything else coming out at the time.
I'm not going to start discussing either with an Eva fan. Just because they inspire each other doesn't mean you can't criticize one or the other. It's not an Eva or Utena thread so its best to stop here.
>only actual lesbian dies for literally no reason in an unintentionally hilarious scene
On that note, I felt that the show had quite a few scenes in which I could not tell whether they were supposed to be funny or not or.
Like when Nanako starts tripping balls from smoking a cigarette or when Mariko (I believe it was her) opens her school desk in one of the early bullying sequences and finds it filled to the brim with tacks. Or was it that one of the bullies hands her a "present" which is just a box full of tacks? I don't remember anymore, but it was something along those lines.
Also Tomoko best girl
>Mariko hated men
>one of the only two girls with an actual het ending
What did they mean by this?
Also: was it just me or was Tomoko the exact same character as Maki from Aim for the Ace?
It's a classic shoujo archetype, that then spawned more recent interpretations like Wakaba and Mako.
My knowledge of Shoujo pre-Ace Wo Nerae is limited, so I'm curious if Maki was the one who spawned the archetype.
>What did they mean by this?
I think they could have spelled it out any clearer. Daddy issues.
Nope, everything is 100% serious.
You have to take the corny melodrama at face value.
It shows its age, but it's part of the charm.
*couldn't
soon
>no incest or yuri.
Yuri is shit.
Maybe
>that dialogue
oh man, only in Japan.
I agree with the rich spoiled girl idea. I think she definitely has yandere qualities because she threatens to kill Nanako when she doesn't want her to leave. She's insanely possessive. She then stops eating until she is forgiven. She is also has other violent tendencies like attacking someone with a knife, not for love reasons but she has that unstable side.
But like you said she doesn't act identically in all situations. This is why I like her mostly. Her unpredictability is part of her charm.
Who was in the wrong here?
