Katanagatari's ending was good though.
pic unrelated
I was relatively whelmed.

>The story has a resolution after the climax
>So underwhelming
Would you rather they not show you the outcome of the story?
> Muh symbolism
Katanagatari's ending was doomed to be lackluster the moment the creator of the swords himself had to come back from the dead to explain the purpose of the whole journey, which wasn't only stupidly cheesy but also meaningless because it ruined any kind of credibility that Togame's ambitions had, y'know, the protagonist of the show which was supposed to be about ? And not some dead fuck who foresaw some premonition that only had a moderate chance to actually happen.
And yeah, even if it makes sense, the whole thing about the ending illustrating how everyone failed at their goals is still underwhelming, because the characters had so many contradictions (aside from Shichika, who's the only character that was done right in the end) because it tried too hard to be deep and added too many layers of additional characterization than it needed, that at this point you had given up any interest in them so them failing or succeeding felt hollow either way.
I bet you think Togame was being honest when she said she was going to kill him after collecting the swords.
"oretachi no tatakai wa korekara da" endings
Trigun had the worst one I've seen so far. It was anticlimactic and absolutely pointless.
She was. It was stated a ton of times that she could not give up her revenge no matter what. That was the entire point of episode 10 meeting the Sage. She loved Shichika, but she still would have killed him.
Katanagatari had one of the best endings I've ever seen. That fucking gauntlet run
...
ITT: fossilized bait
Her goal made zero sense. She fucked up the series tbf.
Also was it ever explained if she ordered Togame's deaths or if Emonzaemon acted on his own ?
So that's why you hate the ending.
You didn't get it.
> Thinking she said it so that Shichika would forget about her
More like you need to rewatch it because you obviously didn't understand why her cursed eye "activated" when she talked during that part.
And no, it wasn't because she was in "scheming mode".
I get the ending, doesn't prevent me from disliking it.
Came here to post this. I don't even remember what happens, and yet I remember the rest of the series very vividly.
I'm fine with everything except that Rustal should have died and Gali Gali should've been the new leader of GH.
>Muh gauntlet run
Ending was rushed to hell and they emotionally built up Togame x Shichika just to have Togame go "lol it was just a prank bro". Nothing made sense and it finished off vague as fuck. What the fuck was accomplished?
At least Shichika gets to dick Hitei, still they gave us a bullshit open ending.
What was vague about the ending? They wrapped everything up pretty nicely from what I watched. Togame had to die. One of the themes of the show was how people who couldn't let go of the past would end up buried by it
Sup Rose-san
It was fine she died. But it wasn't even "She was just saying 'it was just a prank bro, to get Shichika to move on without her". They made it some dumb "I'm a slave to my own ambitions" thing.
She could have at least shown a little humanity at the end and just gone all the way with the romance narrative because that's basically what we've been fed throughout the entire series. "Lol I was just pretending, but I guess I like you" was completely out of the loop.
This ending would've worked if we had more hints into Togame's character. Maybe even showing us a few scenes of her contemplating killing Shichika throughout the journey. That she uses everyone and everything as pawns. Something to set up her last words at the end. They just sprung all of that shit on us at the last minute and it did not make sense after scene after scene of just romantic fluff that we were invested in. They built up in one direction just to switch gears that completely throws it off course.
She died like a piece of shit, but at least make us agree she was before ending it the way they did.
Who the hell is that?
I definitely see where you're coming from but I feel that showing her actually contemplating killing shichika would be a bit heavy handed. I felt like we got enough insight with her backstory about her father and the Maniwa troops hinting at her being a backstabbing manipulative cunt
;_;
But that's not nearly enough. The Maniwa troops were cannon fodder and whatever they say never really held much weight to begin with. They were the ones who betrayed Togame, there are two sides and if we're just going to believe whatever those silly ninjas say, then I guess this ending makes 100% sense.
But I strongly disagree. They clearly set up foundations for Togame forgiving Shichika in the 11th episode. And the ending in my opinion should've been "my time with you (Shichika) was the best year of my life. You changed me and taught me how to feel, to play, to love. I forgive you for what your father did, I'm glad I met you and was able to teach you how to be human, because you taught me how to be human too."
Cue the screech of ntr from Shichika, he takes a few scenes of Hitei and Emon setting up in the Shogunate Castle, and Shichika storms the place killing everyone and breaking the blades. Dying at the end, because he's got nowhere to go without Togame, because that's what was established throughout the series.
"I CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT YOU TOGAME!"
>Later
"Lol, I'm okay now, drawing maps with Hitei"
Bottom line, the ending could've worked. If they built up to it. They didn't, it should've been completely different, and it has us grabbing for straws to make sense of it. Completely irritating.
I just wanted it to be more of a mystery than a character drama.
You're mad at the ending because you're a dense mother fucker and couldn't understand what was happening in front of you? Okay then.
>Hurr durr ur dumb for picking out the failure of a plot to establish consistent character motivations and development
Lmaoing at your life, kid.
>You just didn't get it XDDD
Nice argument dumb fuck.
the amazing bossrush WAS the end
everything after that was effectively post-creditroll bonus footage
IAAH ended? Shit, time to catch back up.
Fuck.
She literally says IN EPISODE ONE and routinely throughout the show that she is willing to use EVERYONE and EVERYTHING to achieve her ends. How dense do you have to be to need this force fed to you when she dies? But I guess for people who actually thought it would end up with Togame x Shichika it seems like a shit ending.

IBO's ending defines underwhelming. it's literally 'i loose like a bitch' the ending.
What a character says does not directly reveal their motivations or core values. Given her character, it's a front. I think you're the dense one here. Name ONE instance in the anime where Togame actually uses someone as a pawn? ONE!
A mystery is just purposely withheld information from the viewer.
>hey zombies, school is out for the day
>they all just leave
