Genetics work is something I am highly looking forward to for a variety of reasons. Inter-utero disease prevention, possibly even to curing things like homosexuality and/or nearsightedness, despite both of those having very complex causes, often times in-utero development or while growing up.
But the potential to fuck up massively is also there. Not that "all natural" is inherently good, just see space rock / volcanoes wiping out dinosaurs or black plague wiping out 1/3 europe. Just that things get really sensitive sometimes.
Actually there was a university from Texas(or florida?) that did just this. How it would work is, they would create and release sterile male mosquitos, and they would compete with the fertile wild male mosquitos and there would be as a result less mosquitos next generation since not all the females successfully bred.
