What is the Overton Window?

Could somebody explain the concept of the Overton Window? What does it entail, and how important is it to politics? Is this related to the ongoing struggle between Right and Left Wings?

how socially acceptable it is to say nigger

The overton window is the type of political discourse the mainstream can tolerate. You can be a normie conservative in public but you can't be a race warrior in public. Our goal is to try to shift the window to make being a race warrior a position you can have without losing everything.

It doesn't exist anymore.

We took the hinges off the window. Then we put the hinges in the fuckboys hands.

came here to say nigger please

Has this Window shifted more conservative than it was in the 1990s, now?

The Overton Window is the range of speech considered permissible in mainstream political discourse. The changing bounds of this range indicate shifts in the political zeitgeist, and thus these changes of the range usually act as a harbinger for policy changes to come.

>What is the Overton Window?
google this dont waste my fucking time
kill yourself and sage

It's a big window with a latch you open when someone blows of a nasty fart.

Trump marks the window heading back to the right. ((They)) have been pushing it so far left since WWII but the pendulum always swings back

With Trump, yes. We're not yet at Sup Forums level, but civic nationalism is allowed, which wasn't the case in the 1990's.

Political correctness, essentially

"what is in polite culture/to be discussed"

Jodie Foster has gone fool lesbian

not yet. but we're racing for it and hella beyond

It's where you repeat over and over again "Gas the Jews, Race War Now!" and people's responses progress like this:

>God, what is wrong with you?
>Jeez, that again?
>Not now, OK?
>Maybe later.
>All right, whatever.
>Yes, let's do it!
>Gas the Kikes, Race War Now!

>(((conservative)))

Wait, is that a photoshop of George Soros?

>civic nationalism
can you please eli5 what this means? because i basically just thought it meant that it's OK to feel proud of being an American, regardless of ethnicity, which was the case in the 1990s, not so much the 2010s though

Basically the idea that a nation is defined by its ideals and beliefs rather than defined by its people. America is probably the best example of this because anyone can move here from any part of the world and call themselves an American if they believe in American principles. But if I moved from America to say, Germany or France, that would not make me German or French.

when was civic nationalism ever outside the overton window?

>civic nationalism
People that are too scared to think for themselves and unwilling to go full ethno-nationalism.

Never at least not in the time that I’ve been alive. But the idea that America even HAS a unifying set of beliefs is offensive now (to people on the left) and these people believe that America is just a piece of land and that you don’t need to believe in American ideals to live here, and that expecting them to is oppressive in some way

the unifying american beliefs are now basically the traits of Univeralism that moldbug rips apart Dawkins for uncritically assuming to be true: rawlsianism, fraternism, historicism, and communalism

Yes, it is a picture of Soros. The result looks like Hillary Clinton, or even her daughter, yet older.

Donald Trump bought the Overton property, demolished the building and built a casino to the right of it.

Here's an example for you : Obamacare was originally a Republican health care plan.
