Mountain Frontier and Pacific Northwest areas are pretty good, if you don't throw a fit over "omg they voted blue" in the Pacific NW parts. The west has the most libertarian politics in the nation. Better states have only 2 of these problems, but in extremes. Average has 3-5. Just have to choose which you are willing to live with.
Indiana isnt too bad so long as you have a decent middle class or above job to keep you out of the poor areas. Cities are white trash/methhead centrals while the smaller towns are quiet but pleasant enough.
