Sure, he's great when he's a/the leading voice in what a project should be, gets to dictate the tone, etc, which is all those things.
But that's not the case here, this role is more akin to the Idolmaster episode. It seemed like they had him do a Chihaya episode because Chihaya is depressing, but in the end the episode wasn't that noteworthy, and was certainly the lesser of her two big episodes.
But maybe that was just a wasted opportunity on the part of whoever doled out the episodes. It's not like he has much choice but to defer to the script he's given. Let's just hope he's given material that makes good use of him with the Diana episode.
