Apparently resistance was a lot more intense than anticipated, the advance stalled to counter-attacks and some equipment was destroyed and captured. Right now the SAA is re-grouping with what they have and shelling the fuck out of HTS just shy of the airbase, careful not to make it unusable when it's recaptured. It's only really delayed the capture by about 3-4 days, if that.

one thing that the russians have to improve is their surveillance capability, time and again they failed to see mechanized rebel advances in the middle of the day that flanked the saa during the course of this war two possible explanations would be that the size of these forces is too small, actually the size of the whole conflict is too small. this whole front could be as small as 2-3k people in total from each side fighting, counting reserves and non frontline units another explanation could be that they can see them coming but they are shit in combat so they retreat from positions even when entrenched

Ofc not all of them could be fighting, but still they must have a lot more than 3k troops on the fronts Also remember that rebels from ALL syria got bussed to idlib in the past so their forces shouldn't be too small Unless, ofc, they are using tactics that would involve small groups of militants moving swiftly and silently
i saw a vid of rebels moving in a village they had 4-5 vehicles and 30 guys. if you look at how small these villages are, you dont need more than that, and these villages are easily encircled. remeber that the tigers are a thousand man unit.

Likely. The Tiger Force aren't an occupying force, they're a small group of liberators, who then receive the occuying grunts. In terms of the Idlib salient they've created, this was likely made to draw the 'moderate' forces into the fight due to the rapid successes, and to create a buffer zone to for HTS to target while Tal Daman get's swept up. Low FSA/HTS but the IS group in the area have been getting bolder. Maybe once the pocket is sealed they'll pop up between the main frontline again.

The Russian military (including Russian 'private military companies') has not only a sizeable 'tactical aviation group' based at Hmemmem and Sanobar air bases (near Lattakia), and sometimes forward deployed at Shayrat and Tiyas (T.4) air bases in Homs Governorate. It also maintains up to 10 battalion-sized task forces of the Russian Army deployed inside Syria, and these are directly involved in combat operations.
Perhaps more importantly, the Russian military has meanwhile taken over the control of whatever is left of core parts of the 'regime's military' (about 20,000 combatants in total).

Because of this, the Russians are de-facto at odds with Iran, which has up to 60,000 troops under its control deployed in Syria, and is eyebrows-deep involved in the process of creating parallel politico-religious structures enabling it to control the local economy, significant parts of the population, and the rest of the 'regime's military' (about 40,000 combatants in total).
That said, Russo-Iranian relations are much more complex than this. Namely, the Assad-Regime is unable to provide for more than about 40% of its annual budget. The rest is paid for by Tehran. That means: Tehran is (also) paying for all the arms, ammo and fuel the Assad-Regime buys from Russia, for example. Without Tehran doing that, even Moscow couldn't afford fighting the war in Syria.
Putin launched his military intervention in Syria for reasons of scoring PR-points at home. He's not even curious to establish some sort of military alliance with Iran: quite on the contrary, Russia generally considers Iran a rival, not an ally. Similarly, status of the Assad-Regime in Moscow is all the time swinging between 'liability' and 'useful fools'.
However, the levels of the Russian involvement in Syria have meanwhile reached the point at which Putin cannot afford a clear-cut defeat of Assad-Regime: this would be a defeat for him, too.
