Well only Nico and Kyouko are ok.

>Sup Forums tries to assert itself as superior

Sup Forums is such a joke nowadays I can't take anything from them seriously.

That's sexist.

>People talk about kids' cartoons seriously for hours over at I sort of get the Sup Forumsnons. Anime isn't exclusively for children. But Sup Forums's shit is made for 10 year olds. How can you talk about it seriously?

I seriously discuss Yotsuba or Detective Conan as well. A target audience of youngsters doesn't mean there can't be any interesting themes for adults.
One of the most well known examples is the Little Prince.

The intended audience doesn't matter, it's just that the shows Sup Forums gushes over are garbage.

Anime is on a whole other level when it comes to themes and diversity.
Cartoons are as shallows as a puddle, respect to the exception.

You bumped the thread.

Irrelevant. Anime has stories western animation cant match.

Fuck, I knew I forgot something

Sup Forums has always been full of people looking for boogeymen. There are so many bigots here unlike Sup Forums because of the subject matter.

Anime is just either sexual exploitation, edginess for the sake of edginess, nonsensical writing that doesn't even make sense for the creators themselves, or dumb over-the-top action.

If you want to experience something good, you need to explore other mediums, like western animation.
Samurai Jack and Avatar: The Last Airbender are delicious.

Anything is superior to Sup Forums

Stop cherry picking

Just make sure to sage if we're going to keep talking about this.

You're right, praise be to the exceptions, I really like the new season of Samurai Jack but Sup Forums's treating it as garbage even though most of the crap they're exposed to is trash compared to it. It's very interesting in a way, seeing their disoriented views.

I'm no expert, but I know why there is talk about harem anime.
It has ACTUAL sexuality in it a lot of the time.
Masquerading as curtained sexuality.

Western stuff lacks sexuality alltogether. So I think it's sick what a lot of Sup Forums does.
Love is a theme, but not sex.
Nudity is a taboo.
I'm a bit puritan when it comes to portraying sexuality in a non-sexual environment, but how can you think "I want to fuck that line drawing that has no female biology and is just a detailed stickman"?

Not to mention western adult animation is most of the time just a bunch of crude sex-jokes or political/social commentary.

I don't like anime unconditionally. But I respect it for what it does. And that thing is being unpredictable, colourful and a weird mix of cultures. That is the best case.
Worst case it's just some generic thing happening with one "meh" twist.

I never really thought about it like that. I suppose that would explain a lot of Sup Forums's bizarre fetishes.

I'm fine with the occasional crude show but its completely replaced anything truly respectable in western animation. No one's taking the craft seriously while anime is widely celebrated in Japan and, you're right, it's a huge mix of varying viewpoints, lifestyles, cultures... It's really beautiful.

Meanwhile Sup Forums has the usual stereotypical outlook on anime, regarding everything japan produces as perverted lolicon harem hentai what have you, whispering under their breath "besides Jojo and Space dandy" or whatever other entry-level anime they've heard everyone talking about before deciding to watch it themselves on toonami or a fake kissanime trojan-distributing website in glorious 240p quality.

I blame the lack of sincerity in western society, personally. It might be the reason as to why so many western animation stories feel so shallow in comparison.

Might be because we are too political in the west.
We get all these activists rising up against everything. I heard japan has those too, but not in large numbers.
The Sino-sphere (Not in the language sense, but in historical sense) is really apathetic when it comes to politics and public activism,.

Anime has the strong point of having a thief mentality. They will steal any ideas and repurpose them shamelessly. (For a great example, there is Lupin)
Tezuka copied Disney but gave it a Japanese flavour.
It's more like the borg than a melting pot.

But this reckless usage of ideas that leads to a lot of weird stuff that simply wouldn't get approved in the West.

And animation there serves a different purpose. It serves as a fill-in for the film industry.

A result of the self powered Meiji-Restoration! (Where they sent a committee around the globe and stole the UK's industry,Germany's constitution, and America's will to expand)
A great hadron colider of ideas!

If you want to continue this discussion, I recommend bumping the thread

I wish there was a way to change American society. We don't have to be good at movies alone. We must aim for top and work hard. I also think weirdness is good. It's better than the same ol' same ol' and shouldn't be looked down upon simply because it's different. In fact, American films are in a rut these days.

I'm not sure if I really would like to give Sup Forums attention. I don't think highly enough of them to continue this conversation in the spotlight that is page 1.

I don't know about american society.
I don't live there.
But from my tiny knowledge, I can say that animation became kids thing because it's colourfull and the first successful ones were made for kids.
And Disney helped cementing this image.

In Japan, manga is for everyone. (From what I gathered about manga and anime after reading two books on the subject and some japanese novels(non LN)
So it's natural that they can aim for different markets.

The american way is
>Aim for the kid,get the parents too

The Japanese way
>Hook the whale with all the stuff we have and let him not escape
stuff being extras like figurines,CDs and other stuff.

Then I don't go against your will
Sayonara

Your point of view makes sense, I hope America's can change soon. Goodbye.
