I love it as much as the next guy but most people are deluded by nostalgia. While it has some really nice points about it, it's just okay and nowhere near FMA.

It's gonna do nothing when the source material is awful.
How did something that started out so good become so shit.

>Answering to a fan's question, 44-year-old manga artist Hiroyuki Takei revealed on his official Twitter yesterday that he received an offer for an anime remake of his representative work Shaman King, but had to turn down it. The original Shaman King manga series was serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump for 300 chapters from 1998 to 2004, then compiled in 32 tankobon volumes. The first TV anime adaptation produced by XEBEC was aired for 64 episodes from July 2001 to September 2002.

>"To tell the truth, there was an offer for an anime remake that reached a realistic level... But because they were not able to use the first anime's voice actors and soundtrack music, I had to turn down it. I hope there will be another chance."

Gash Bell would be fantastic.

Besides powerlevels going to fucktarded levels it wasn't so bad.

Just animate the best girl spin off instead

Maybe there is a chance for Vectorball.

SO MANY THINGS I NEVER COULD SEE

Author literally dropped it, so no.

All the characters became boring or irrelevant the longer the mangaka tried to write himself out of a corner.

Really? Fuck, i was actually looking foward for this.

How? Pretty much every main character barring Faust had their own arcs and even factions like the X-Laws and Hao ranks were kept interesting.

Don't forget the anti-climactic Boss Rush at the very end. That was when people really started making up abilities.

And for a series revolving around dead ghosts and stuff the idea that death was a revolving door started really piss me off when it became the only way for people to power up. Did the author forget that spiritual journeys can happen while your still alive? I thought Ryu had the best characer arc in that regard with his trip to Orochi. And Faust despeatery needed more characterization for how he was able to make MephisophilE which came out of left fucking field.

Why

He had a crush on one of the seiyuu

This is one of those things that it's better to keep the nostalgia on, the story itself is not that good and i still want to forget that flowers exist, but this was my first anime, so i don't want another trainwreck further ruining my childhood memories

>Our T H I C C overlords XEBEC made the first seasons of Shamanking
Wew, didn't see that coming.

Xebec is surprisingly competent at making non ecchi shows. go check their catalog

SHA

KING

No, we already have enough generic shounen

Shaman King was anything but generic, though.

i want to believe user

The story was standard Shonen. But I reread it about a year ago I think what really sets this apart from a lot of other shonen of its vintage is the amount of good characterization and motivation that's going around up until the final act or do when things shot the bed. I also can't shake the atmosphere presented. If one guy managed to create a strong sense of meloncholy through his writing and imagery, Takei is one of them. The story is very moody in a good way at times.

Ultimately I think it's a good series to revisit, but pretty flawed with its resolution. I'm OK with Hao winning, I'm not OK with how it articulated and the somewhat defeatist mood of the ending.

Sometime last year I watched Ushio to Tora which just did nothing but remind me that Shaman King existed, so shortly after finishing that I started reading Shaman King. I dunno man. Its a fun shounen battle manga but I dont know if it deserves the FMA:B/HxH 2011 treatment
If any show deserves that treatment its Gash Bell. Not only did the TV series cut tons of side stories and smaller arcs but it also ended abruptly after what was supposed to be the second to last fight. More importantly, imo, it was just kind of a shitty adaption in general. Very, very budgety and cheap, and the pacing was ridiculously slow. Even in the fights that were supposed to be important the animation was crap.

These anons get it.

The only thing the anime did right is the music and the songs, which were all 10/10

A shame the best track was in none of the OST releases so people have only made a shitty reconstruction youtube.com/watch?v=JVPW7ZFYKww. There's also a absolute fuck ton of varients of all the music and songs, with various voice actors doing the singing instead or alt genre versions, like this eurobeat chichiwo moge or Gash's VA singing the third OP: youtube.com/watch?v=fO5nwuk3TA4, youtube.com/watch?v=b5rmXIp4-KE

There's also the english OST that was pretty good too. The composer made a Youtube channel and uploaded some remakes since they were never really released officially.

I don't think Japan would mind it if Gash Bell received a remake in the future
