Anyone else remember this anime for Wizard of Oz? I have memories of at one point owning a vhs for it when I was little, and if I recall it wasn't too bad

I think it was edited into a movie and I think I watched that in school in fifth grade but I'm not sure. Since getting into the books I've been meaning to give the series a real watch.

I haven't seen Oz, but I did see Puss in the Boots when I was a kid, and it was excellent. Still is.
Really old-ass anime thread, I guess?

oh wow I never saw that when I was a kid, it looks like it has a whole lot going on!

I think it covered more than one book.

yeah looks like it covers 4 books over 52 episodes, not too bad a spread to be honest

I think I do. wasn't there some second part with some kind of slug?

could that big fellow be who you're thinking of? A slug doesn't really stick out but there were a good few monsters if I recall, it's been so long since I've watched the VHS

No I remember that one, but there was a giant slug they had to stop or something...

apparently I'm not that wrong, but it seems images of it are gone from the internet or never made it into it.
>Back at the underground kingdom of the Nomes, an Invasion specialist named Guph suggests that in order to conquer the Emerald City they must make an underground tunnel which will take them to the Emerald City. Along with Guph's Giant Dirt-Devouring Worm, the Nomes make the tunnel and pass underneath the 'Deadly' Desert.

since we're on the topic of old anime, had a VHS of this when I was little too, didn't watch it a whole lot growing up but I watched a couple episodes recently and it's pretty cute

oh wow, I wonder if I don't remember that because they cut it out of the american vhs, seems like something that would stick out

Maybe, it was fairly creepy looking from what I remember and for the age I must have been. but I remember it was a full arc so maybe they never made it all the way there in the us.

the monster that really sticks out to me was a couple that looked like 2 huge fat mountain lions and they defeat them by having them walk on logs over a rushing river and they fall in

Apparently the show's on youtube! here's the giant worm. Also get back to the start of the video for some 80s CG Kansas:

oh wow! Thank you for finding this! That CG isnt actually too bad, and that worm is pretty menacing, I can see why you found it creepy as a kid!

theres the big ol cat monsters, looks like they were meant to be a mix of tigers and bears

I wasn't hating on it, I'm just amazed that a show had CG that early on. and that it was used for a Kansas farm flyover of all things.

Oh I didn't think ya were, I just wanted to remark about it, it really is interesting they went to all that work for an opening instead of recycling the original op with a new song

Oh my word, I remember this. It definitely covered more than the movie did. I also remember one for Robin Hood where Marian was a blonde chick who cut her hair short and wanted to kill king John because of something I can't remember.

>giant worm

Holy shit now I remember this show too.

Was it rape?

This cartoon has some really unsettling stuff around despite being a kid's show.

Tin Man is choking a bitch now

It's surprisingly more engaging than I would have thought or remembered. I might watch it with some young family members if they enjoy it.

I'm watching ep 52 right now and the gnomes driven by emerald greed are currently drowning right now.

Is emerald greed like jungle fever?

Gnome King is an asshole
