There was a series I thought would be a harem because of the premise, but then I realized that only two of the girls were interested in the main character. The third one just wanted to be his friend.
This doesn't make the series any better of course. It's still around the same level of quality as battle harems I enjoy, but it does mean it's not a harem.

There probably shouldn't be much more of a plot than "washed up protagonist bitterly teaches students and slowly finds his faith in magic once more while dating his mentor." Unfortunately, that would require a bit more effort than jamming in a disowned magical princess and a crazy cult that wants to kidnap her a lot.
