Ikuhara appreciation thread

...

All his shows were cool on first watch, but I feel like I'd be more critical if I were to revisit them. Still, he's a good director and I like how he improved on Dezaki's style. Always admire folks who try something different, whether if succeeds or not.

I'd appreciate if he made more anime. What's he up to right now?

SEIZON SENRYAKUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

He needs to join Anno's studio already

Fuck off Anno

This is debatable.

Ikuhara definitely took the style in a new direction.
But it's hard to say that one is better than the other.

Also, some might argue that Dezaki and Ikuhara aren't even that similar beyond a focus on character drama and Dutch angles.

Not making anime hopefully. His works are like a good load you save up. Sure, you can get the instant gratification now (YKA), but it doesn't compare to what you could get if you hold out for longer (MPD).

You have 10 seconds to explain what these words mean.

He has great taste in Sailor Senshi

I bet Anno fapped to this

Who wouldn't?

Legs 4 days

I think it just depends on the amount of episodes he gets, not the length between series.

Man I just finished Utena yesterday. I feel like a lot of people prefer it over Penguindrum because its themes are a lot more explicit and because they're easier to empathize with. Like both have very charming characters and everything about Ikuhara's direction is very whimsical, but Utena is a rather straightforward coming of age story/allegory while Penguindrum has a lot more on its plate, like the Tokyo subway attacks, abandonment and a lot of Murakami influence.
Also I'm dumb, what were the swords getting pulled out of people meant to represent? Cause after the Black Rose arc it really confused me how the order got switched and it was Utena and the Dueslists that got the swords pulled out of them instead of the other way around

Ikuni a cute

Is he married?

I don't think so.

He's the best anime director, and Utena and Penguindrum are both 10/10s. Too bad the bear thing was shit.

what an ugly t-shirt
