This isn't actually true. Lobsters tend to die after they get to a certain age because they have trouble molting. Breaking out of increasingly thicker skins is exhausting and after a while lobsters just tend to die during the process because they can't get through properly.
If you keep surgically removing the lobster from their shell when they would need to molt, they might be able to live longer though. But about 50 is the longest a female can live and the 30's for a male due to this reason.

When I was young my parents had a pet store. My dad sold all sorts of exotic animals or just unique ones like lobsters. Turns out lobsters die after a sudden change in temperature. One time at the mall where they ran the store, the power went out for a few hours. All the lobster died just from the slightest change in temperature.
