What they would gain from controlling you is largely the same thing they would gain from having any random normie in their grasp. Your labor, your economic contributions, your vote in fed/state/local elections, your ability to fight for them should they decide to draft you, your ability to produce and raise another obedient citizen, and so on.
Lower IQ people are easier to control and a lot less likely to do anything truly damaging. Any influence that must be exerted upon them to make them stay in line is trivially small, essentially left to autopilot. If they are controlled they are not a threat, they are a +1 to the system and the current order.
Higher IQ people are harder to control because they are much more self-aware, much more cautious and thus less likely to jump when told, they are curious and seek out lots of information from a variety of sources which tends to make them more informed than average, quickly notice patterns, aberrations, inconsistencies, straight up lies, and other things that poke holes in otherwise good propaganda/manipulation. Adequately controlling, even subduing or neutralizing these people is very important because such people are worth multiple of the lower sort. As a government, you're blessed should you have them working in your interest, cursed should you not. If they are not controlled they are a threat, they are a -1 to the system and the current order.
