See, not getting baptised is a sin (because everything that breaks God's will is sin), but because he can see your whole life he knows whether you will get baptised at some point. Therefore he wouldn't consider the time before the baptism as "time spent in sin". But if you die without getting baptism it would be sin technically, but since you're already washed in the blood of the Lamb there is no penalty.
And Jesus himself had to get baptised otherwise he wouldn't have been able to complete all of God's will and would be in sin.

There are 2 kinds of baptism. One with Holy Spirit and second with water. The one with Holy Spirit happens automatically after person repents and becomes Christian. Baptism with water is only to show other people that we declare ourselves as new beings in Christ. God tells us to do it, but it's not required for salvation, because we are already baptized with Spirit. That's my opinion on this.
