How do capitalists defend the fact that the entire global economy is centered around convincing people to buy toys they don’t need?

Technological advances have made it possible so that relatively few people can provide the necessities of life plus consumer goods.

Instead the ruling class kicked consumerism into overdrive and the vast majority of people today work meaningless jobs that revolve around making said toys or convincing people to buy them. The global economy would crash to a screeching halt if people stopped buying BMW’s, drinking Starbucks, using Netflix, wearing designer brands, eating meme foods, and buying phones every year.

We are depleting the planet’s resources and wasting peoples’ lives just to keep them at busywork jobs; to keep them hawking shit that no one intrinsically wants or needs without being told so.

Defend this. An entire planet revolving around consumerism.

lel my brand new phone costs $240 and it has 3gb ram and 32gb storage

>let people choose
wow that was difficult user

Capitalism being used as a tool for consumerism is a Jewish trick. It's supposed to be a means for anyone to enter the free market. You wanna start a bakery. You collect some money working at one, then start your own, if your product's good, you sell. Now, we burn down the bakery, buy all our shit from Walmart, and work at McDonald's. Monopolies have a lot to do with this.

>rampant consumerism
I like it. I can buy their little trinkets and toys for a miniscule fraction of what they paid for. Living costs to live /comfy/ have never been cheaper thanks to the overstock auction and secondhand goods market.

The other options are boring, or deadly, like communism

>It doesn’t matter that the planet becomes uninhabitable as long as I get the new iPhone.

>i like planet being killed because i can buy shit i dont need cheaply

We don't practice capitalism. We practice usury via compounding interest, regulated by a central bank, based on a debt-based/created currency. No country has ever practiced capitalism. There is no free market without government interference. As long as everyone falsely believes we practice capitalism, our system will remain broken and the American people will continue to pay interest to a private banking cartel to digitally create our own currency, like idiots. Don't worry, we are not the only idiots, any other country with a central bank under the Bank of International Settlements (BIS), also is falling for this massive wealth transfer scheme.

Remember, both the Fed and the IRS were created in 1913. This way, if they can't screw you with usury/debt, they will get you with taxes.

>a society revolving around chasing shiny objects isn’t boring

"ching hei, what is 'ecks veedios'?"
lol idfc i don't use it for anything that private anyways. I only use it for the time, memes and occasionaly porn.

Nice copy pasta

You have autism.

Environmentalism is a foreign concept to the nigger; who destroys everything he comes into contact with.

>We are depleting the planet’s resources and wasting peoples’ lives just to keep them at busywork jobs; to keep them hawking shit that no one intrinsically wants or needs without being told so.

That's what most governments do. The Pyramids, Asian mega-autism traditional testing, Roman legion military model; all designed to keep peoples' hands busy. If they make their own decisions, then the cult of the state dissolves into nothing.

Nah, it's stuff I use. Got an open-box griddle and a pressure cooker for $30. Makes cooking easy and cheap. Need some foam for a project? Scrap foam by the cubic foot for pennies on the dollar. Need a more powerful computer? Buy the $4000 workstation PC for $670 after it's two years old. Need new jeans after I completely tear them up from daily use? Thrift stores have entire racks of them for a few dollars a piece. Convert the old jeans into rags or substrate for ballistics panels.

I find myself reusing a lot of the stuff that's deemed too old or scrap.

The point is if everyone thought like you the economy would literally collapse tomorrow

No.

How do communists defend starving and genociding 100 million people and still not even being able to give their populations toys?

The "reuse until completely used" and "find the best deal" mentality is and was standard operating procedure for a very long time. It's a /diy/ mindset for the most part.

In the past, because that was the prevailing thought process of many people, manufacturers made their products with repair and service in mind. It was just different back then.

Nowadays, with increasing complexity, it's harder to keep up that mindset. Everything seems to be throwaway. They can still be repaired or reused, but sometimes that involves extra costs or skills many people are not willing to throw down for. I've revived many a broken good just by swapping or rebuilding components. Not many do that though.

Chances are good that everyone won't think like me. I'm probably an exceedingly small demographic, even amongst the penny-pinchers and dwindling number of /diy/ers that exist today.

>criticize consumerism
>get called a communist

Yes, brainlet. You really think Facebook servers and designer clothing factories are crucial for humanity’s survival?

so giving people a choice to spend their money on whatever they'd like is worse than...? mandating what you think they should buy?

That which enters the public mind irrationally cannot be kicked out through rational means. And consumerism is largely driven by children and teenagers, which will to ANYTHING to get their shiny useless crap from their parents.

>I’m ok with our citizenry being mindless degenerate consumer sheep
>we should orient our entire global economy on this

hes either a boomer or a retarded kekistani autist blumpf cuck

What if my choice is that spending and liking aren't very important, or relevant?

You're fucked in that you have to stay watch the shitshow, basically.

and whose fault is that? people are dumb. if they willingly throw their own money away on the shiny object thats their own choice.

then you dont have to do it.

>need
Stopped reading there. I'll buy what I want faggot.

If a product is designed to be addictive, or the marketing behind it is coercive or made to cause an emotional response, it's not their own choice anymore. A buffalo can get stuck in mud next to a crocodile, but has little understanding of the tactics that led the crocodile to choose the right ambush spot and attack vector. In b4 food analogy.

t. Boomer Escalade owner

The thing is that they know that they don't need what they want.

well if you spend time and money creating a product, you're going to want to make it desirable for purchase. thats how a free market works.
i used to be addicted to cigarettes. the tobacco companies made a product that enticed me and i chose to buy it. successful business on their part. why does virtue or what you believe is right or wrong need to play a part in this process

I know I don't need what I want and I'm going to fucking buy it anyway at you commie apologizing dipshits

>I have no agency

>The point is if everyone thought like you the economy would literally collapse tomorrow

Yes, because the fundamentals of the global economy is built on debt spending. If people don't accrue debt then the rolling ponzi scheme collapses. It's all built around future growth, this is why globalists want more people even if they have to import shitskins by the millions.

Each person is another drone to carry a debt load. Shrinking populations mean shrinking GDP and that's a death spiral the way things are set up.

Of course what they don't tell you is that the reason we think "perpetual growth" is even a thing, is just based on the big productivity jump after WWII:

>both genders start working (2x workforce)
>consumer market takes off (debt spending increases)
>technology jump
>computing jump
>dotcom jump

But what they fail to mention is that all these boosts aren't eternal, and the benefits to the market diminish. We're in the tail end of the internet jump now and there's nothing really on the horizon for what could be an enormous next step. Even computing's productivity effects have turned into a whimper, moore's law is breaking down.

Ultimately what the "endless spring" people don't get is that this world is finite and physics have limits, and that we're coming up against both. Endless growth is literally impossible.

The working masses have been jewed since the 1970s, adjusted for inflation all profit has been going to the few top % for decades, even though living costs are up. There is a new aristocracy already and they want to keep you a slave. They want you fighting foreigners instead of cutting their heads off in the streets for what they've done to our countries.

>many people offering services that normal people can afford
>this is horrible!
>stop presenting me with opportunities!
>I just want to live in a cave and eat rice my whole life!

>buying huawei
god you're actually a faggot

>why does virtue or what you believe is right or wrong need to play a part in this process
Personal freedom. You know, the thing from the constitution. If free market works by taking away agency or by using coercion, suggestion and psychological tricks to manage agency, it kind of goes against free society.

The planet's fucked, isn't it?

Nothing boring or deadly in fascism, unless you are degenerate soy dickgirl. Then maybe you'll get bored rotting in your cell indeed.

what else do you propose?

You're a faggot who doesn't believe in free will.

The framers of the constitution understood salesmanship very well.

It's your choice to get addicted. Your choice to be manipulated. Its your job to control your own emotions.

nig calm down
If i could afford a new 5er i`d fucking buy it every new generation. But I can`t and that`s why i have e39 not g30. Stop butthurting b0i

i dont think it's taking away agency or coercing. it's playing on the naivete and impressionability of the average person. in the end, they still have a choice. i do not feel bad for people who see a cool new product in a movie, or the hottest new kicks in a music video and choose to waste money on that rather than necessities. seems manipulative, sure, but in the end you are still responsible for your own actions.

I definitely don't believe in free will. I've seen too much evidence against it.

lmao boomers. "the hottest new kicks in a music video" get the fuck out of here. also fyi- if you were even moderately successful, you could afford luxury items AND necessities. what a concept

i agree, thats why i dont feel bad for poorfags who waste what little money they have on shit they dont need and claim they were forced to want to buy it.
