>anime that's only popular int he west
Given the Japs' shit taste, I take it this is a list of objectively good anime, then.
Ginga was a thing in Sweden, Norway and Denmark as well.
Apparently no-one in Japan remembers Lain, whereas in the western anime circles, as we know, it is ubiquitous and considered essential.
Lain didn't actually sell that badly in Japan (IIRC it sold maybe 3k or so at least), but yeah, it's more famous in the West than in Japan.
Also, one example I can think of is Haibane Renmei. It sold decently in Japan, but now it's more or less forgotten there, unlike in the West where it's still considered to be a masterpiece.
Also, pretty much anything by Satoshi Kon. Westerners loved his work but it seems he wasn't that popular in Japan at all. I couldn't even find Japanese box office figures for his films.
Sailor Moon.
Not sure how popular the anime is, but for a while Sup Forums was pretty much the only place that cared about the Watamote manga. The mangaka even came and thanked us herself when the adaptation was announced.
>The mangaka even came and thanked us herself when the adaptation was announced.
I never really cared for Watamote, so I guess I didn't hear of this. Source?
i had this on vhs tape and it was all in finnish
t.swede/finn and dont speak a drop of finnish
>t.swede/finn
Do you mean a Swede in in Finland or the other way around?
Im not sure what u call someone who lives in sweden and is half-finnish, is it also fennoswede?
The joke about Lain was that it was supposed to be "too deep" for western audiences and made with "core japanese" themes that would only resonate with nippon.
Then it turned out that both audiences kind of viewed the same way, but the Japanese were a bit more desensitized to its particular development of the story, whereas westerners viewed as utterly unique and interesting-- if a bit confusing.
If I remember right didn't you guys send dick pics to the mangaka?
Sailor Moon was pretty big in flip land
sailor moon, pokemon and whatever else was also popular in Sweden, it even got translated
youtube.com
Does this count? It feels like it was made for western audiences.
It only got a second season because of Cartoon Network, so I'd say so.
>NHK
More like only popular in Sup Forums
Fennoswede isn't really a proper term. Finlandssvenskar are native finns whose first language is swedish.
Sverigefinnar were/are a language based immigrant minority so you just have finnish heritage, or at most you're a borderline case based on your finnish parent.

Well my mother is fullblown Finnish and my father is Swedish, I live in Haparanda municipality and some Swedes wouldnt even consider this part of Sweden Swedish at all, atleast so i've heard
I feel like this was popular nowhere. I actually kinda enjoyed it.
It's even mentioned in the first english volume
>The many comments and d*ck pics we got following the publication of volume 1 in Japan live on in our hearts to this very day!
Tornedalen is a special case. The finnish community is so old that finns around there aren't considered to be immigrants and as such sweden finns.
wasn't logh dead, buried in old LDs, until the west revived it, and they released the dvds?
If I remember correctly, there were actually ads that mentioned us loving it.
>Popular on the American 2chan!
or something along those lines.
It was a thing in latin america thanks to locomotion channel. for me, its my favorite harem anime, maybe because of how it was blended with all that post-apocalytic theme. and im not even into harem
That's fucking hilarious if it's true.
