I started watching MTV in the mid 2000s because that was my parents finally got a cable package with it. The first season of The Real World I ever saw was the Paris season and that was sometime in 2003.

I quit watching sometime around high school, but I don't remember anything overly degenerate being shown. There were speed dating shows which were awful, some series about guys going on dates with mothers of the girls instead of the girls themselves and they had to decide which girl to choose based on what they learned from the mother, I believe Room Raiders was still around (a friend of mine was on that show) and then there was MADE and True Life which were actually really fun to watch.

I started watching again like five years ago for Catfish, but that show is SO OBVIOUSLY scripted and fake that I bailed after the first season.

All in all, MTV wasn't THAT bad when it came to degeneracy.

Cable subscription is falling fast. Someday these crappy cable channels will be history.
