Because America is the world's number one diplomatic, political and cultural power and has on its own 52% of the native Anglophone population. Having dubs in British English would make about as much sense as having German dubs in Namibian German.
The thing about "le hot british accent meme" is that upper class English sounds nice, but that's the case in any language. Just look at British tv interviews and you'll hear how disgusting the English of British commoners is.
