Kyoto Animation

Let's have a nice civil discussion about the most talented studio that makes only perfect shows, future of Japanese anime.

Pixar discussion belongs on or .

What's next for Yamada after failing to impress critics with Koe no Katachi?

SOON

I Love Moe

Would have preferred a third season but I can see it being hard to make since half of the team is out of school.

I wonder what KyoAni would be like without Haruhi

>Same face
>Moe SoL series over and over
>Never leave its comfort zone
>"""""Most talented""""
Come again?

What are you talking about?

I'm not sure if they make perfect shows - but I hope their rumored employment ethics and the arguable influence it has on their output quality bleeds into the rest of the industry. My fear is that while their animation quality and attention to scene establishment is commendable - they won't be able to translate that quality into bankable sales since the industry is driven by a very odd niche. KyoAni would be more of a superstar if it had to compete in a more westernized business environment, however, Anime isn't accepted enough yet for outfits like KyoAni to transplant itself into another market easily. I'd also love to see KyoAni take on a totally different sub-genre outside of their usual wheelhouse in an attempt to broaden their stable of fans.

>perfect shows
>Clannad

Clannad was shit, but I blame the source material. Kyoto Animation needs to break out of its typecasting.

I hope Yamada makes more movies. She seems the most comfortable doing them as opposed to TV series.
Joint productions like Hibike S1 are fine, but I much prefer her at the helm.

Other than that, it's a shame they don't do anymore ambitious 2 cour projects like Nichijou, Hyouka, or K-On!!. I know it's because they went completely in house, but the one cour stuff they've been pumping out has been largely pretty forgettable outside of visuals, even though I absolutely loved Kyoukai no Kanata and Tamako Market.

They'd be as famous as Doga Kobo.

VEG when I need my kyoani fix.

A lot of that has been market driven. Almost everyone is doing one cour recently. On the bright side, KyoAni should have quite a war chest built up from this period.

I wonder what the mental state of the type of person who makes these thread is. How can you find repeating the same stupid meme for literally years on end entertaining? What the fuck is wrong with you?

Shitty meme studio with cancerous fanbase

>kyoani makes the same faces since k on

isn't ghibli like that too?

They seem highly reluctant to get out of their comfort zone of highschool settings. This isn't really a bad thing since they do great with it but I can't help feeling KnK or Phantom World would have been better if they just ditched the highschool and went crazy with them. Source material doesn't matter since they can and have made changes for anime adaptations.

Maid Dragon, Tamako Market, and Amagi didn't have high school settings.

I never said they only do highschool settings.

Yes but you said they were reluctant, but they actually do all the time. Hell, they do it more often than Ghibli does something other than fantasy settings.

What does Ghibli have to do with this?

Are you looking forward to Violet Evergarden?

Point of comparison. Kyoani has more setting diversity in their work than Ghibli. Saying Kyoani doesn't leave their comfort zone is evidence that they actually haven't watched their shows.

Yes.

The thread is about KyoAni, what Ghibli does is irrelevant and comparing their works to Ghibli as if they were some kind of benchmark to how often you should get out of your comfort zone is pointless.

I've been thinking, is KyoAni influental outside of their niche? They stand out because of production values rather than the quality of stories, and their biggest hits have faded away instead of becoming timeless classics.

It wasn't a benchmark. It was a simple highlight on how diverse Kyoani's shows actually are. Hell, you are talking about Ghibli more than I am at this point.
Your deflection aside, it may help to be more specific of what kind of settings you want. Besides, any setting you name has probably already been done by Kyoani.

You're the one who brought them up. And as I said in my first post, I'm fine with the highschool setting, just those anime felt shackled by it.

I thought they went bankrupt?

>Ghibli same face
>this argument again
Seriously, so what?
Both has boring same face design. The fuck are you trying to imply?

>tumblr
Go back to your shithole

>failing to impress critics
>wins the movie critics award, the tokyo anime award chosen by industry veterans, the academy award for excellence and the media arts award for excellence as well as being the highest grossing Kyoani film

I too like Madhouse

How many films have they even made?

About a dozen if you include recaps, half a dozen without.
