I've always like Annie the most but lately I think my opinion has changed to Reiner. We get to know him the best out of the three and he probably has suffered the most. Best boy.

Endgame right here, brothers.

I've come to accept Annie is never coming back.
Her being crystalised rather than being straight up killed off made me think she'd come back for something important.
Now I realise it's just so she could be eaten at another point.
I thought maybe she'd have a role in recapturing Shiganshina. Like the SL would force her to use her powers to fix the wall.
But Eren got hardening and fixed it without her.
I thought Bert and Reiner would go on a rescue mission. But Bert got eaten. His love for Annie never resolved.
I thought the SL would use her for information, but now they already know everything.

There's no narrative reason to bring her back, and no reason for the characters to want to bring her back either.

Ymir was just as major a character as Annie. Arguably even more so. And she got killed offscreen. Never having a major appearance again after her arc was over.
Annie will suffer the same fate. At most we'll get a flashback page showing her about to be eaten as she passees on her powers to one of the SL. Hell, Isayama probably killed off Ymir the way he did so he could draw parallels between humanity inside the walls and outside the walls when he kills Annie.
That will be Annie's final appearance in the story.

Ymir introduced that things were more complicated than they'd originally seemed. Up until then it had been a fairly black vs white setting. Ymir added that maybe there's more than one side out there. Maybe things are more complicated. Maybe the big bads of the series aren't actually the big bads.
Additionally she was responsible for Historia's character growth. The only reason Kirsta became the Historia we all know and love is because of Ymir.
Plus she saved a bunch of lives with her actions. Historia, Bert, best boy Connie.

That's at least as much as Annie ever contributed to things.
