STOCKHOLM (Reuters) - Sweden will do whatever it takes, including sending in the army, to end a wave of gang violence that has seen a string of deadly shootings, Prime Minister Stefan Lofven said in Wednesday.
Sweden’s murder rate is relatively low in international terms, but gang violence has surged in recent years and Swedes are worried that the police are unable to cope.
In 2016, the latest year for which official statistics are available, 106 people were murdered in Sweden, a country of 10 million.
But Swedish TV reported there were over 300 shootings, mostly in turf battles between gangs over drugs, protection rackets and prostitution.
Four people were shot dead in the first week of this year. One man died after picking up a hand grenade outside a subway station in a suburb of Stockholm.

Especially you Pekka should know that the Swedish army delegates a lot of responsibility down to the lower levels including the soldiers (Unless you're one of those cowards who refuced military service then I don't blame you for not knowing how it works). In a debate some time ago the leader of the Sweden Democrats hinted at something similar, the prime minister responded in full on rage "How dare you say something like that!? Send in the military!? YOU think this is some kind of war zone! This will only worsen the situation bla bla and some on.

Some celebration of army, weapons branch or the individual regiment. Some of the soldiers dress up in uniforms and equipment from different time periods. We did the same thing when I did my military service many years ago. The AG 42 Ljungman semi automatic rifle was taken out of use in the 60-ies. Tractor towed bicycle rifle battalions were taken out of use in the early 90ies.
