I dropped the LN right in the middle of the Kamisato arc. Can I pick up NT18 now, or I have to suffer through the bullshit volumes of Harem Rejector to understand everything in NT18?
HO is right now easily the best Kamachi series.
I don't know where you dropped it, but you need to read NT16, perhaps to me the most Kamisato-ass kissing novel of them all, to understand how Touma and the others are able to get into the Windowless Building in NT18. If you don't want to then read this spoiler: Touma joins forces with Kamisato and his harem to fight Yuiitsu whose base is under the Windowless Building. Their battle creates a large hole underneath it..
NT17 is required to read not just because of how many plot points from the previous novel is picked up immediately afterwards but because it is actually a fun novel especially if you dislike Kamisato and want him taken down a notch in pretty much the most ironic way for his character possible, as well as Yuiitsu finally getting her shit pushed in.

I'd consider NT9-10 a single volume a call it my favorite. I understand we're only in the middle of NT18 and it's early to say, but I feel like NT18 isn't going to top 9-10 for me. But I consider it NT8 of Aleister Arc: a set up volume for more hype ones NT19 and NT20. We'll see it then.
8-10 are the only good NT volumes.
So after ignoring Blood Sign for years I must say it easily had the best start out of all Kamachi's novel series. Much better than any NT volume except maybe 9 and about as good as second half of HO.

And literally all characters are far more entertaining than fucking Hamazura getting chased around by common thugs or Accelerator going shopping while Birdway infodumps about magic for entire fucking volume.

Food chain. Academy City basically operates on a caste system, and they barely hide this fact. Level 0's get to die in back alleys or get experimented on, while Level 5's get revived by Aleister no matter what.

What if another country accidentally makes a level 5 Rikou? Or someone even more bullshit than Accelerator? It might be a good idea if he could limit the non-AC espers to level 4, but otherwise it introduces too many variables.

Blood Sign's pretty damn good, definitely more consistent than Index quality wise, but it's not hit the highs that Index hit in WW3 or NT9 yet. Exposition has always been a problem for Kamachi, probably worse in BS because of how complex the systems are. It'd be cool if Kamachi put the "Facts" sections into Index, it's nice that he tells you which bits of the long-ass exposition bits are actually important.

There's a damn battle tutorial at the beginning of every volume. It just doesn't make for a good read at all. And it shows because the strength of this series certainly isn't the battles.

Unless a studio other than JC Staff gets it, there's no point. White Queen is top tier but I'm not sure even she can save the show from horrible CG and pacing.

Those are like 4 volumes out of 40+. Meanwhile average Index novels is meh at best while the worst ones are absolutely terrible. BS may not be as good as the very best bits of Index but it's close and far above the average for Index. Especially NT.
HO is also much better than Index after volume 6. Zashiki is much better too. Index is really overrated as fuck because it's the long running series Kamachi got famous for.
BS combat is definitely more complex than your average LN. But that summoning systems is not even that complicated or confusing. And I'll take that over a guy running to the enemy and punching him/her in the face for the 50th time.
I've done some thinking about how to adapt it

That way the audience has a PoV character that also has no fucking clue what's going on, so they can be drip-fed the mechanics of the summoning ceremony over the course of a few fights rather than just having a full exposition dump episode/arc. The shift to Kyousuke's PoV after the first arc might annoy some people though.
