Because capitalism isn't great. It's normal. Average. It's the most basic socio-economic model going and it doesn't shout about itself. It's difficult to make people appreciate capitalism because its successes are quiet and numerous while its failures are deafening and often served in big timely dollops.

Capitalism was awesome when everyone had opportunities, but we've ruined it here. The wealth is all distributed already, and the owners protect it so fiercely, with the force of the government they buy to protect them that there's no more American dream. It's an uphill battle to succeed, but not because it's hard work, but because the path is blocked by those already on top.

Because most of them can't get a decent job, can't buy a house (and other stuff that invests you in the system) until they're in their 30s. More men than ever don't have a gf because they don't earn enough.

Naturally, without overt religion, they latch onto the religion of socialism because only those with superior IQ generally create their own reason for existence beyond instant gratification. Socialism is never the answer, all forms will push responsibility and accountability onto one group or another, leading towards economic collapse in one way or another. It is heuristic that mechanically rips productivity and agency away from the individual and thereby aggregately the collective making everyone poorer.
