Sup Forums memes you fell for

>Aria is the pinnacle of SoL

Only meme you fell for is being a contrarianfag.

Aria isn't even nearly the best of what the genre has to offer. There's plenty to it that's unique and interesting but it's also a huge magnet for the pseudo intellectual "patrician" taste anime fan who's actually embarrassed of anime. The kind that loves shows that they can show to normalfags without them being disgusted and can claim "I like anime but NOT that kind of anime!"

Kekmeme Friends Friendship is magic.
Serval VA is a cute though.

I don't think Aria is very normalfag friendly, if you showed this to anyone they will most likely think you are weird.

What are you even trying to say. You started a shit thread. And it has nothing to do with your opinion.

projection: the post

That's a different user expressing a valid opinion regarding the very common misconception that Aria is somehow deep making it superior to other SoL.
I started the thread to warn others from potential disappointment since it seems some memes are taken too seriously by some, to the extent of being called a contrarian for expressing different opinions from the hive mind.

Wrong. Aria is weird. Shows about cute girls doing nothing are weird. It's not meant to be watched with other people. It's meant to be watched by frustrated young men who are suffering the burdens of working adulthood without the benefits.

>but it's valid other people are saying X
Other people aren't here. You're just talking to yourself.

It's an acquired taste for sure like watching old films or foreign films, a lot of people won't be into it. They certainly wouldn't think you a seedy otaku pedophile though like they might if you showed them superior works of the genre like Ichigo Mashimaro or K-On!

Oh shit I got busted, what I'm going to do with all these proxies?

I didn't start his thread.

Aria is just different. You don't watch it to think, feel emotions, or even empathize. It's just relaxing, but at the expense of being interesting.
If you want to be interested, you read the manga instead.

Aria's not deep, but it is more patrician than other SoL because of the quality and relative subtlety of its storytelling.

K-On is fucking Disney tier, you can show it to your Christian grandmother and in the worst case scenario they will think you are immature for watching cartoons but is totally harmless.
Ichigo will label you as a pedophile for the rest of your life though.

You should really try watching Akage no Anne. It's much better in every sense with regards to the factors you are describing.

>Pinnacle of SOL
>Not Hidamari Sketch

You have a warped sense of reality.

>it's not furry if the tails don't touch
Why the fuck are these furfags still allowed to spread their cancer in this board after the anime finished?

Don't kid yourself, Shitamari Scat isn't even a good example of SoL.

What is Toradora?

One show literally showed in Disney channel in various countries, the other is a late night anime for Japanese men.
Who is being contrarian now?

Not him but it's definitely better than Aria. Highly creative and thoughtful direction. At least in the earlier seasons.

>Toradora is the greatest love story ever told

Nobody is being contrarian? I am just telling you what most normal people would think of a grown man watching a show about little girls being cute and not much else.

They aren't that little

Mamoru Oshii talk about Anne:
"His (Takahata's) other works aren't my cup of tea to start with. He is very particular about descriptions, but to me, they all look quibbling. But in truth, as a director, I was most influenced not by Conan, but by Anne of Green Gables. I was astounded by how broad the range of direction can be. Because, there was no story. It's just washing dishes, or watching a carriage go by. And it's a long (scene). But, this has tremendous power. In that sense, my eyes were opened."

That isn't the issue. You point to Disney like it's proof it isn't perverse but I'm not arguing it is to begin with. They show feet on kids TV too, that doesn't suddenly remove the fact that there are hordes of fetishists using it as wank material. You understand that many people think someone who slept with a 17 year old is a pedophile right?

>Anne of Green Gables
I've been tempted to fall for this meme, anyone recommends it?

>Akage no Anne
Poorly translated novels do not count, it's on the same level as Miyazaki's works. Don't bring it up in this thread please.

It's not perverse if the fetishists keep to themselves and aren't vocal like bronies or other blatant pedophiles, as far as I know K-ON in the west had a good reception and nobody was branded a perverse pedophile for liking it.

>Panty and Stocking is funny

>it's on the same level as Miyazaki's works
I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing from the context of your post.

It isn't poorly translated in any sense. It's a 1:1 adaptation. Probably one of the most faithful I have ever seen in anime. Given that comment I doubt you've ever watched it.

Nice numbers

>it isn't poorly translated in a sense
Read the damn thing

I'd rather you didn't if you are the kind of person that describes opinions as memes.

epic low post quality

I have indeed read the damn thing and it's a literal 1:1 adaptation of the book. If you are claiming otherwise you are factually incorrect.

I'm not doing that though, I'm just saying that anime as a staple of iconic animation became a meme since at least the Shirobako threads.

I can understand if there are people who does not like Aria - it's too optimistic for some people take seriously

But what's up with this nonsensical discussion comparing to random literary works and cartoons which follows an entirely different set of cultures?

Just drop the show if you don't like it. Aria may not cater to some but no one can say that it was ever bad

It became more commonly mentioned on Sup Forums after the BD rip was subbed. It's not really anything to do with Shirobako. There's always been a small following of WMT enthusiasts.

Epic post senpai, I humbly apologize if this thread has in any way harmed your susceptibilities

I only dislike the adaptation. I really like the manga.

I liked Aria. Amanchu was disappointing though, especially after the wonderful Flying Witch.

One can say Sup Forums likes to meme Aria as a masterpiece

Being overrated does not make it bad

It's funny in a strange western style, it's understandable that you don't find it funny if you are a hardcore weeaboo.

The biggest prank they ever pulled:
"It can't be translated' and his little sister: "It's funny in Japanese!"

An user raised the point about Hidamari Sketch being a better SoL.

In a sense this is true. Hidamari Sketch simply shows the daily school lives of Yuno and her housemates, and is a pure slice of life. Aria's portrayals of the undines' daily activities aren't so much a focus by themselves, but are more a vehicle for the author's explicit iyashikei preaching. It therefore stands to reason that Hidamari Sketch is a better "pinnacle" of SoL than Aria.

As to which are actually better anime in a straight comparison, I'd say both are different enough to be incomparable, but if forced to make a rough estimate, they're about equal.

Is there an SoL comparable to Minami-ke, which is really just about every day life without any gimmicks?

Good thing neo-Sup Forums figured out early what a pile of trash this was, so we no longer have as many threads as we used to

OP, the Ariafags here have gone through this sort of baiting a lot back when the daily Aria threads got a lot of heat at around ~2010. You're not going to get the sort of ragestorm you want out of us.

>SoL in general

What do you consider gimmicks? Is being part of a certain club together a gimmick? What about going to an art school? What about having a period setting?

Sup Forums used to have minami ke and Azumanga in higher regard than Aria, I don't know what happened.

>literal
I'm just going to assume you don't know what literal means.

>>Sup Forums used to have minami ke and Azumanga in higher regard than Aria, I don't know what happened.
That was never the case, so what happened was that you probably have brain damage.

It wasn't that bad. It had interesting dialogue and directing. It was fun. Wish it had a VN though. Prefer these type of stories in VN format

I'm going to have to assume you haven't read the book. Nothing was changed besides the language. All the same lines of dialog are there with all the same events. Nothing added, or cut.

>nothing was changes aside from
If your argument hangs on that. You don't have an argument.

Silver Spoon's gimmick is farm school, Yuru Yuri is the Amusement Club, Aria is Neo Venezia. Minami-ke is just normal life.

>NGE is worth watching
>EoE is better we swear

Sup Forums tricked me twice and I'm still assblasted

I'm not sure you do to be honest. What exactly are you trying to say? When you say poorly translated? That the Japanese lines are a poor representation of the English novel?

Indeed, all SOL is trash. Arguing which ones are less trash is stupid and pointless.
Also everyone knows Nichijou is the best.

Fucking Mushishi. So fucking trite.

I don't think "gimmick" in the way you're using it here is a bad thing, if properly focused on rather than used as a cheap audience bait without substance.

For instance you raised Silver Spoon; the author put across what life in the farms was really like, which was great. If that's what a gimmick is, we could do with more of it.

>I'm not sure you do to be honest
Replied to the wrong person?

Yuru Yuri isn't even SOL

>>Avvenire ep3 sitting in the HDD unwatched for a year

I don't want it to end ;_;

I loved it. I'm the kind of guy who loves stories about traveling and different creatures, though.
What did you dislike?

I'm going to have to assume at this point that you are just avoiding having an actual discussion because you really don't have any idea what you are talking about and thought you could make a claim without any knowledge not realising it was factually incorrect. Because you sure do seem to be doing everything in your power to avoid actually having a discussion by making irrelevant side comments.

>daily Aria threads
Why are SoL fags so cancerous?

Amano's Aria sketches are beautiful.

not our fault your taste is awful

Bakemono and Kizu were alright, the rest was undisputedly trash

>assumptions
That's all you make I noticed. You're essentially just talking to yourself. To an image of what you desire me to be. It's a tad pitiful.

That's coincidentally the only seasons I've seen. I'll take your word for it.

Does Mushishi live up to its hype?

SallySubs' 1080p encodes of Aria the Origination and Avvenire BDs are out on Nyaa. They haven't put it on their site for some reason.

90%+ of the threads on the catalog are daily threads

I like character and relationship growth and it seems to me that Mushishi has pretty much neither. Its a series of oneshots of various quality, and nothing that really stands out. It's an Sup Forums favorite though. I think its a favorite of MAL too iirc.

>implying daily Aria threads were even close to as bad as the 24/7 K-ON general at the time

Watch episode 1 and see if its setting and episodic nature is to your taste. It's very good at what it sets out to do, so the question is not its quality but whether its style is up your alley.

I think it does, personally. Like this user says there's no overarching plot, and it's more of a collection of stories. All the stories are interesting, and it's told in a very relaxing way.

So you actually don't have any argument to make to defend your claim of it being "poorly translated"? I suppose my assumption was indeed correct then.

The centrepiece of Mushishi is its world, and the pseudo-live creatures that are the show's namesake. It never pretended to be a show focused on any characters (other than Gin as the audience's observer). Not sure why you'd expect that.

That's just blatant bait, you should have at least tried with the rebuilds or other well known memes with more arguments against like code geass or TTGL

>all slice of life is ba-

What happened to the uploading of the high-res scans that were promised?

Anime is a flawed medium, once it gets an anime if it ever does it will undoubtedly suck

d

The world isn't that good though (doesn't leave you with much to consider), and desu I don't think I've ever seen a "world centered" show that is good. But it might just be a matter of individual taste, clearly Mushishi is very loved.

MAY YOUR SOUL BURN IN HELL AND ALL YOUR OFFSPRINGS DIE OF TB

...

It is though.

Or, rather, Origination is. Nothing else goes even close, in terms of pure SoL.

You have to watch it. It's the whole point of the episode, and the whole point of the series.

It's only loved by the MAL crowd which praise it for its "atmosphere" but in fact they are just hardcore weeaboos who love it for being too Japanese

Indeed, it boils down to what the audience is looking for in their entertainment, and there's no denying that Mushishi is pretty niche in that sense. I'm personally a sucker for fantasy worlds with alien natural systems, and therefore really loved Mushishi's exploration of just such a thing and its relationship with the actual people in fantasy medieval Japan.

I'm still curious how many people funded the LWA OVA which in turn indirectly led to the new anime which in turn is a fucking blunder, how fucking pathetic folks.

The new anime isnt terrible. Its not as fun or as interesting as the OVAs but its a decent show. Also i have no fucking clue what your actually asking.
