War Literature

ITT We post about books that can enlighten civilians about military life in general, with a focus on the frontline perspective.
No fiction, no treatises, no Sun Tzu.

Ammianus Marcellinus

Recent war or historically?

Tuntermaton soltilas. Wonderful book.

Anyone got any guerrilla accounts of Confederate partisans during the war between the states?

Read this a while back. It's based off diaries of fallen red soldiers, their motivations for commuting atrocities against Germans. Interesting disparity between Russian 'frontoviks' vs American British and German.

The author gives a caveat. The only veterans she could find willing to talk about the war are Jewish veterans bitter about the fall of communism. Normal ruskies refused, giving the impression that they would not dishonor their fallen comrades and would take their stories to the grave. She spends about half the book talking about Jews, and is remarkedbly well sourced if you are looking to redpill.

Shelby Foote anthology,Churchill memoirs, On War, rise and fall of the third reich, decline and fall of the roman empire, history of the peloponnesian war, A history of warfare by john keegan

Everyone here should read guerrilla warfare by Che Guavera. The guy had some seriously good ideas about insurgency and improvised weapons. The Molotov shotgun mortar is a masterpiece

...

Any high quality, first-hand account. We're talking diaries, memoirs and autobiographies.

It's a novel, right? Have you read pic related?

spot on
Cassius Dio, Polybius, Polyaenus

try the lesser known ancients, good stuff

requesting a compilation of after-action reports

I felt that book made the user rely too much on luck and the general population being on the side of the insurgents.

Movie: Fog of war

What does Sup Forums think of Guerrilla Warfare by Che Guevara?

Fuck Che Guevara spic fuck commie. Anyone who spreads this faggots name and teachings deserves gas chamber.

Black Hawk Down by Mark Bowden is in the top tier.

From my understanding it's not a primarily ideological book. More like a tactical handbook and a valuable read for the 1488 crowd.

I might be wrong, though.

...

Great contributions, thank you Anons.

Epic Poetry centered on war contains tactics and a good insight. In fact, check out Song of Roland as well.

this.

Thucydides

> reads OP
> posts it anyway

Which ones here are first-hand accounts?

You’re correct but a future right-wing insurgency could have broad public support in large areas across North America and Europe. Che offers some pretty good advice for how to use friendly populations to your advantage

>op did not mention von clausewitz
>reees when I post von Clausewitz

My grandma knew the guy Rokka is based on (Viljam Pylkäs), they came from the same village. He wrote a self-biography if you happen to read swedish or finnish.

> OP mentions treatises
> On War is perhaps THE most famous strategic treatise

Every Kirst book

>being this mad on Sup Forums
