Pacing was all over the place, even went as far as changing the order of chapters from some volumes, rushed some and required anime original content to fill the gap.
And you most likely only remember Kirino, Ruri, Ayase, Kyousuke, Manami and maybe Saori but the rest is just gone, nobody remembers them.

In this regard too, Eromanga is better, it doesn't waste too much time creating characters that are irrelevant.

Eromanga doesn't have enough backstories and sideplots to make it something that is a serious romance story. It's more comedy than romance. Oreimo had a rather serious tone compared to this.

Backstory comes much later and so does the romance, sorry user. Oreimo wasn't much different in this regard, even the stuff with Ruri only began around volume 5.

The source material and the anime are two different works, and each should be be examined independently on their merits. I'll admit that maybe I'm being presumptuous for judging an incomplete series, but introducing a new character and having said run through an entire arc before main girl gets any real development is pretty jarring to me
