Aldnoah.Zero

Wasted potential the anime.

Yeah.
>Asseylum not becoming God-Empress of Mankind with Inaho her consort

Good soundtrack though

>Wasted potential
This implies it had potential

At least Slaine is perfection.

It's honestly kind of amazing how much better the show could have been if you killed at least one of those characters at some point.

I dropped this anime after episode 5 because the MC was kind of plain.
Can you summarize the plot for me?
I know that Slaine get arrested somehow in the end though. Why?

I bet you are thinking you're being funny.

Slaine joins the Martians to help take over Earth to bring peace.
Sauce shoots the princess, Slaine shoots Inaho in the face.
Both live, Inaho gets super high tech eye that analyzes everything, Princess stuck in a coma for like 8 episodes in Martian base.
Slaine gets adopted by Sauce, but Slaine kills him and continues conquering Earth.
Suddenly Princess wakes up, marries Crouton's son and ends the war in the span of three or so episodes.
Show ends with Inaho visiting Slaine in jail.

>I know that Slaine get arrested somehow in the end though. Why?
Vers turns against him after asshime makes her peace speech, he tries to kill himself but Inaho doesn't let him since asshime asked him to save Slaine's life. So instead, everyone is told that Slaine died while he's spending the rest of his life in solitary confinement and tried to kill himself with starvation.

Wait, then what was the point of Slaine?

What do you mean, what was the point? It's more like what was the point of anything in this show since things just return to zero and Asshime creates an extremely unstable peace and sells the resource of her people out.

To satiate Aoki's hateboner for pure little boys.

He becomes the main antagonist and big bad but ultimately just loses because people are loyal to the princess and Inaho trashes his mech.

How was Slaine bad? His actions were not evil in nature.

suffering

Yes, exactly that. If everything was "resolved" by asshime in a few episodes, then doesn't that mean Slaine's struggle was for naught?

I wish. Then again some idiot still hang on to the fact that the show only became shit once Urobutcher left ignoring shit like this that was in the first episode.

BTW, /m/ has a better A/Z thread

Pretty much that.

That one's almost dead, but they touched up upon some of the biggest issues.

Fujoshit bucks

It will be in the archive, if anybody wants to dig up.

Not saying he was literally evil, he just becomes the main guy the "good guys" have to defeat.

Yeah pretty much. The whole thing was resolved through a Deus ex Machina that had absolutely nothing to do with either side.

>Better
>Just the Slainefags that were kicked out still crying
>Just the same repeated shit from past threads here

Ya know, its clear to tell that the people still salty over this are newfags who watched this as their first mecha anime because everyone has long since forgotten about this.

I challenge you to make this one into a better thread then. Go on, show me.

Just stop, you know yourself how often you respond to Aldnoah threads. It's time to let go and stop being so assblasted.

>the gundam killer

HAHAHAHAHA

Oh look its the Slainefag from the /m/ thread

That's a meme Sup Forums made up. All the production crew talked about was the quality of mecha animation.

A/Z had a lot of problems, but Klancain the fuck out of nowhere is probably the most egregious -- it was so bad that I can't believe it happened, and it would have been so easy to fix by combining Klancain and Book into one character.

Other problems:

- The "super robots versus real robots with teamwork and a plan" of the first seven episodes goes out the window and Inaho starts single-handedly taking out Martian Kats with pure bullshit.
- Related to above, Rayet's storyline going nowhere.
- What happened to Lemons.
- Asseylum can't stop a war with words in the first season, but she can stop a war with a husband who has just one goddamn warship in the second season. The ending was Lacus-tier "Stop fighting" "Okay" -- and even if it makes sense for Slaine to do that, it's not a very satisfying finale for everyone to just stop fighting.
- Slaine is punished/villified for something he didn't do (starting the war, trying to assassinate Asseylum) instead of the thing he did do (teamkilling his dad, prolonging the war)

>All the production crew talked about was the quality of mecha animation.
That doesn't make sense

Send them a letter of complaint.

Don't forget that Klancain was a teenager who spent his youth living in the upper class of Vers and didn't fight in the war, there is no reason for him to have sympathizers among the Orbital Knights. The ending is basically a war just waiting to happen, but Aoki will handwave it as a "they lived happily ever after".

>instead of the thing he did do
>prolonging the war
That's tricky. What he should be judged for is backstabbing Saazbaum and the whole thing with the fake Asseylum because he participated in Saaz's plan of lying to the whole nation. I don't think he had the power to end the war himself (with peaceful methods) because he was a Terran on Vers side, they would accuse him of betraying Vers and just wanting to help his home planet. Many counts were just waiting for a chance to turn against him.

The big issue is that they couldn't reveal Lemrina's existence since it would shake Vers up and create too much internal conflict.

sawano is a hack

What annoys me about Aldnoah is that every freaking fight is just eggs pulling a Deus ex Machina out of his ass and blowing the Martians away.
The sheer stupidity of the Martians is also annoying. Who the hell designs a war machine shooting rocket fists that do pretty much nothing? The mech designs are moronic.

Why?

Vers already had internal conflict. People were pissed at the nobility for no resources.

In Urobuchi's outline they weren't supposed to be super robots but rather normal robots that are very strong compared to terran ones. The issue is that the people who took the story over made changes and didn't compensate for them quality wise.

Slaine should've just fucked the loli instead.

That's why Book should have been combined with Klancain. Then you can tell a story about Cruhteo's asshole son who is part of the younger and even more racist generation of Martians (like Book) and comes to Earth to avenge his father's death at the hands of asshole Earthlings, gets captured by Earthlings (like Book), realizes that not only are Earthlings not assholes (like Book) they also didn't kill his dad, uncovers that Hime has a double (like Book) and Saaz's original assassination plot, helps Asseylum recover her memory by returning Slaine's pendant (like Book), and has some backstory behind him when he and Asseylum jointly declare that this whole war has been bullshit. He would also be useful for repudiating Saaz's (and to some extent Slaine's) revenge storyline.

I really just can't get over that it never occurred to the writing staff to not combine these two useless characters into one useful character.

>I really just can't get over that it never occurred to the writing staff to not combine these two useless characters into one useful character.
I agree perfectly with your suggestion because it would make much more sense, but the actual story happened because they wanted to "follow Urobuchi's outline"

Asseylum was supposed to marry an old count initially, but the writer that took over was "too much of a romantic" according to Aoki's words and he wanted everyone to have a slightly sweeter ending, so she got Crutheo's young son. The other issue is that Book is portrayed as an oddball and recluse in a way, a guy who is genuinely curious about Earth and doesn't want to harm those people. So this kind of guy wouldn't have much power among Vers either.

Didn't get butcher Urobuchi's outline by making Egg overpowered with a robotic eye and just being emotionless the entire time.

>Marries an old man.
J-Just like in my ero doujins?

I really would like to compare Urobuchi's original outline against final thing.

>Asseylum was supposed to marry an old count initially

I thought Eggs got her pregnant in Butcher's outline.

The names were stupid.
>Asseylum
>Eddelrittuo
Just why?

They'll never publish it so they can remain vague about the whole matter. There is Butcher's script for episode 1 that got published in Archivez 3, but I only have a transcription in Korean.

Nope, not a single interview mentions an idea like this.

I really enjoyed S1 it wasn't amazing but it was there to be enjoyed but Jesus S2 just ruined EVERYTHING, MC getting some fucking broken ass piece of equipment that doesn't effect him at all.

Slaine turning into a bitch, Truly one of the biggest fuck ups ever.

Fuck Ei Aoki forever.

>Slaine turning into a bitch, Truly one of the biggest fuck ups ever.
>implying climbing up in political hierarchy and taking things in your own hands makes you a bitch

The Martians destroyed the Moon. The Earth was fucked.

Actually, Inaho's dad destroyed the moon.

If they had waited for IBO to come out they would've been right

It was airing at the same time as Reco.

And Try too.

It overlapped with Cross Ange for a while, too.

Not sure how Ange managed to be the first one in SRW.

>Not sure how Ange managed to be the first one in SRW.
Supposedly it won a poll asking which series you want in an SRW.

Cross Ange is owned by Bamco who also own SRW

Why did Inaho turn on Slaine in the first season? He did nothing but try to help him. At least bring him in for questioning or something. I will never not be mad about this.

Bad writing, forced drama.
It's not in Inaho's character to handle the situation like that, he's the type that would bitch about semantics but instead he says something like
>so what if we use the princess?
and is vague on purpose.

There was no potential

Bamco's monopoly on mecha franchises should be illegal ,what don't they have a hand in?
Even outside of mecha they do merchandising for almost all anime series and franchises.

Man I miss this show. I think it was my last real experience of hardcore shitposting with Sup Forums.

This and Valvrave were GOAT shitposting

They own Idolm@ster, Pretty Cure and an insane amount of anime licenses. The second biggest production company I can think of is Aniplex since they're a part of Sony, but the gap seems too big (Then again, I'm not too familiar with production companies).

God no, it was awful. The levels of mental gymnastics and amount of falseflagging were atrocious. It was probably the only anime original which I wish I didn't follow the threads for, it wasn't funposting, it was just painful.

I wish I could remember all that shitposting better, but the series was literally so forgettable that I can't remember shit.

I found it hilarious. It was PURE cancer. I remember pretending to support Slaine and samefagging as an Eggsfag. It WAS funposting user. Pure funposting.

Nice digits. The series is forgettable, but I remember the threads

I liked the OST.

>fantastic Shimura designs for most characters
>good voice cast
>Earth versus Mars backdrop with infighting on both sides
>relatively inventive worldbuilding
>Slaine and Inaho set up a Reinhard and Yang duality
>peace princess willing to shoot people and drop into combat
>fantastic visual direction; animation quality stayed high through the series even though nothing topped episode one
>interesting mechs
>SawanooOOOooOOooo

It should have been a solid 8/10, but the second season had no plot.

I mostly remember Slaine versus Inaho shitposting (especially after 7, 12, and the blue rose episode), the guy who insisted this poster was Inko because Inaho's hips couldn't be that wide, inter-cour shitposting about who had died, speculation based on titles, Saazbaum-fagging, Harklight photoshops, "Count Book is my husbando," and homos.

>tfw you and a whole bunch of other people waited eagerly for a poster to be put up because potential spoilers
Thinking back that was pretty retarded desu

The shittiest writing I've ever seen

Not just once, but three times.

>Slaine and Inaho set up a Reinhard and Yang duality
Slaine was already too much of an edgelord to be a good ruler. But comparing Inaho and Yang is not even funny. The point of Reinhard/Yang duality is that both are reasonable, likeable and sympathetic characters, while being leaders of the opposing sides.

The whole show should have been a rag-tag group of school children headed by Eggs Autist defeating overpowered mechs piloted by incompetent people.

It's a cool unique concept and the mileage is there.

No discovering ancient technology or russian bases, just basic shit for most of the show - much like the first half of Gurren Lagann.

Slaine rises through the ranks from the very bottom as he's the only one with the sense to counter Egg's strategies. Otherwise, frankly, Slaine didn't need to exist at all and you can move the internal drama to just the band.

What were they thinking, turning it into generic mecha shit when it's entire appeal is that it was subverting those. The second season ran out of steam so fast it was dizzying, though it had already jumped the shark at season 1's finale.

It's all coming back to me now
>That's totally a body double guys!
>It's the maid dressed as hime!

>peace princess willing to shoot people and drop into combat
The idea sounds good, but the way they pulled it off in the anime was absolutely retarded.
>princess who lived a pampered life
>doesn't even know what birds are for some reason, even though Vers has pictures of them and books about Earth
>fights against a member of her own nation and smiles like a retard while trying a gun out
>keeps talking about peace and earth, but doesn't give a shit about Vers
Holy shit, Asshime was so retarded. It's even more hilarious when you have the parallel with Slaine feeling sickened by the idea of shooting a Terran one episode before that.

>fantastic visual direction; animation quality stayed high through the series even though nothing topped episode one
What? No, episode one didn't even stand out, you're probably just thinking about the hype ending of it. The direction was awfully mediocre, Aoki sets up a few good scenes and then makes the rest completely uninspired and boring. What was amazing was the thought put into the background art and some of the architecture and designs.

>Slaine was already too much of an edgelord to be a good ruler.
He never wanted to be a ruler or to have power, political power was just necessary for the thing he was trying to accomplish.

>political power was just necessary for the thing he was trying to accomplish
Which were what again? Protect Hime? Get a good life? The bitch did not know what he wanted, and that's why he ended in a cell.

Assure a better tomorrow for Vers.

His character arc in season 1 is about him trying to get help from different people (the emperor, the UFE) but everything backfires at him because either misunderstandings happen or Saaz sets him up. So he learns that if he wants the job done he needs to take it in his own hands. The main thing he wanted to do was save asshime and end the war, for himself he only wanted peace of mind after all of it is over. After he spends 2 years with Saaz and meeting Harklight he wants to try and bring change to Vers.

Then why did he fight instead of going for the power of friendship as Hime did by the end?

The only good thing to come out of this show were the doujins.

this

sometimes i wonder if they start the production with a finished script, or if the make it up as they go

Was he supposed to walk up to the Martians and tell them
>hey let's surrender and stop harming earth

Even if he told Lemrina to make that announcement to everyone, people were suspicious of him ever since Saazbaum died, that's why the loyalists sent klingklong to investigate what's going on.

>people actually thought this was going to be good
code gundam was shit from the moment it was announced

>Wasted potential the anime.
The only waste of this garbage is the art design.

>That's a meme Sup Forums made up
Nope, they literally said AZ will surpass Gundam.

Inaho should've stayed dead after the first cour. Watching him solve literally every problem singlehandedly removed any sense of relevance for the rest of the cast

>they said
Who is "they"? A random pr guy or journalist?

That series was so vanilla but so fucked up.

The strongest Tryhard

At least this kiss was wonderfully lewd.

...

...

>playing dumb
We even have an interview post here when it air and everyone laugh their ass off when they shit the bed once butcher is out.

>Slaine was already too much of an edgelord to be a good ruler.

Slaine an edgelord? he did not even have the balls to go full revolution.

So basically, you have no idea who it was.

>Eggs didn't wear an eyepatch until the end of the series
What the fuck, Troyca? Not gonna give us our Egg Boss jokes?

>still playing dumb
That's old and bust, user.

>fantastic Shimura designs for most characters
Shimura's designs clashed heavily with the tone of this show and most of the designs weren't good.
>good voice cast
Hmmmm...take a voice actor who's known and praised greatly for his emotive acting and give him the lead role of a stoic unemotive character...WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG? Add in Aniplex stables who push in subpar performances or who aren't given any leverage and you hot yourself an atypical anime cast with no standouts.
>Earth versus Mars backdrop with infighting on both sides
Except both sides are poorly development hell the Earth side itself aren't given any sort of backdrop they're just there.
>relatively inventive worldbuilding
>inventive
Yeah I sure do love hearing the history of your conflict being drowned out by BGM add to the fact that there's so much of it that just doesn't make any sense
>Slaine and Inaho set up a Reinhard and Yang duality
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Really your delusions are more entertaining than the show itself.
>peace princess willing to shoot people and drop into combat
Yeah this isn't new at all and given how she turned out I don't think anyone would want a character to follow her example
>fantastic visual direction; animation quality stayed high through the series even though nothing topped episode one
Look at all those lies!
>interesting mechs
Pic related
>SawanooOOOooOOooo
Not trying for the umpteenth time as he rides out the success of Unicorn in another subpar effort.

Really I'm not sure where people get off that the show only got bad in its second season from. Were you really that blind from the writing flubs throughout the first or was this really your first mecha anime? Because if it was that's really sad.

>take a voice actor who's known and praised greatly for his emotive acting and give him the lead role of a stoic unemotive character
Why are you putting Hanae above the rest of the cast? He pretty much falls into that other category.

It was a bad move on my boy Slaine to get rid of Sassybutt.

>Why are you putting Hanae above the rest of the cast?
I wasn't but he is an actor known and praised for his emotional performances and seeing him do a character that's not emotive was jarring especially since Tokyo Ghoul was airing at the same time and he hit it out the park with Kaneki in fact his performance was the only good thing to come out of that show. Really everyone was just phoning it in like every Aniplex original show.

even the clusterfuck that Captain Earth turned into was better - at least the first half of CA was pretty good and they only went full retard in the second half
