Whenever there's a new Republican president or presidential candidate, the media writes articles about how the last one was good and the new one is much worse. After "McCain is worse than Bush", "Romney is worse than McCain", and "Trump is worse than Romney", Bush seems great by comparison.

When people hate the current president of either party, they think "well at least previous pres of that party wasn't so bad" despite being the same people who demonized them in the first place. You don't remember as closely little things that annoyed you.
