It's one of my personal favorites

I can't say it's my definite favorite but it's up there, at least it has the best ghibli girl I can say that for sure.

movement like no other

Miyazaki makes his best films when he caters to adults.

definitely my favorite of his.

It's saddening that it doesn't get acknowledged anywhere near as much as most of Miyazaki's other movies. It's not as flashy or whimsical, but it's got a lot of fantastic shots and the plot is pretty mellow and the characters are all lovable. The dub is also pretty great and there's a lot of memorable lines. Bygone Days is my fav Hisaishi song. Honestly Porco Rosso is probably my favorite movie in general, I've watched it too many times to count.

honestly, that's his magnum opus. it all went downhill after porco.

the wind rises was p good.
at least, it had a similar message.

>Porco Rosso
>not Nausicaa
It's good, but Nausicaa is a masterpiece

Porco Rosso is very chill but I like Miyazaki's films where the setting is more grand. He's one of the very best at making classically epic settings.

>Nausicaa is a masterpiece
I'd agree if you are talking about the manga, the film is far from that.

everything after princess mononoke was pure trash from miyazaki. ironically, it was around spirited away when his movies started gaining traction. that being said, the wind rises is still one of his best

It's hard to list the best things about Porco because everything about it is 10/10. I must have watched it well over 10 times and the dogfight that turns into boxing has me in tears laughing every time.
Out of his other films all you really need is Mononoke and The Wind Rises (well I guess Totoro and Spirited Away have cultural importance since everyone has seen them), everything else he directed is very flawed and pretty much a lesser expounding of the same themes.

Because it's about airplanes and underage girls, his two favorite things in existence.

porco rosso > kiki's delivery service > everything else he's done ranging from mediocre to trash

>Miyazaki makes his best films when he caters to adults.

Then why don't you people like Ponyo?

Porco is my favorite. But I can admit that Laputa and Kiki are just as good in certain ways. Whisper of the Heart is tied with Porco for my favorite, but most people don't give Miyazaki credit for that movie, even though he did write it and do the storyboards.

Nausicaa story is childish amateur garbage. Miyazaki's worst movie

Sub or dub?

PR is better than the Nausicaa movie.

I watched the sub and thought it was 10/10.

A pig that can't fly is just a pig.

>asking about dubs
>ever

It has one of my favorite Ghibli songs

It really is. No argument here.

Ponyo is literally for children, Miyazaki said so himself.

Ponyo was made "For 10 year old children and the parents of 10 year old children." If you really analyze it, its a story that appeals more to parents of young children than the young children themselves. Especially the 10 minute scene of Ponyo learning to eat and clean the house. That was aimed 100% at parents.

Everyone knows its best in French.

ITT elitist ass holes that are too afraid to admit they like the more popular ones because they want to feel cooler than the "normies"

You mean hipsters?

>too afraid to admit they like the more popular ones

All of Miyazaki's movies are well into normie status. Porco is actually one of the less known Miyazaki films. Though that's a misnomer since Porco is still more known than most anime movies.

What's far more dumb are the people who hate Miyazaki movies as a whole because they're popular.

ww1.5 era airplanes with skypirates and secluded secret beaches. 10/10

Why are the best Ghibli films not done by Miyazaki?

>Parents
There you go dummy

>the dogfight that turns into boxing has me in tears laughing every time
Are you 10?

Porco Rosso is awesome, but the Miyazaki soft-spot in my heart is taken up by Mononoke

far better soundtrack

This.

Honestly the dub is one of the best anime dubs I've ever heard. They got Michael Keaton as Porcco, Carry Elweys as the texan guy, Brad Garret as the Pirate Captain, David Odgen Stiers as Piccolo and Susan Egan as Gina.

My favourites are Totoro and The Wind Rises, but I love all his movies.

Out of the ones I've seen:

Spirited Away > Laputa > Nausicaa > Porco Rosso > Pom Poko > Princess Mononoke > Grave of the Fireflies > Whisper of the Heart > Kiki > Howl

Best girl in all of anime

Spirited Away has the best soundtrack. Chihiro getting on the train is his best scene. I pick Spirited Away

Oh shit I forgot to add Ponyo on the end of that.

seconded.
The french language has a shitload of pig-related idioms and sayings, and boy did the translators have a field day with this one.

Plus it has Jean Reno voicing Porco
