I'll never understand why people will say "well, this is the way things SHOULD be" instead of adapting to the obvious imperfections of human nature. That'd be great, but that's not the world we live it. Never has been, never will be. People shouldn't have to lock my car to walk into a gas station, but they do. People shouldn't have to instantly assume salesmen are trying to rip them off, but they do. People shouldn't have to be ready to defend themselves in the comfort of their homes, but they do. If we can develop skyscrapers, nuclear warheads, and put one of our own in space before we can stop harming each other, it's almost like we're still animals with basic instincts despite all of our bells and whistles. So, anyone who truly thinks this rhetoric is worthwhile and maybe even a feasible option should take away "Just a thought." from this more than anything else, because it's that unrealistic. They should get on board and tap into that instinct of survival, despite how much of a "social construct" or "problematic" it may be in their eyes. Get mace, a pocket knife, a stun gun, or best of all a concealable handgun (if they're able to) to level out the playing field a little bit. Not saying it's right, but it's the way of the world. I'd rather take accountability for my own well being, rather than leave it up to chance that everyone is willing to maintain ethical accountability of their actions to do so for me.
