grunge became popular because anyone who could strum a guitar could invent music. No more blistering 15 min solos (which personally i was getting sick of, ti was getting obnoxious)

What kickstarted degeneracy was jazz. Not guys like Bill Evans playing in a club, mind you(although he was a junkie), but guys like Miles being used to push racemixing, drugs etc. Rock just put into overdrive what had began with jazz. You had decent people in between, but they were exceptions.
