The peer review process is very nepotistic, and not even the number of citations is necessarily indicative of how good you are, especially if you have the tendency to cite yourself, or if your department insists on you to cite someone else belonging to that department. It can be very nepotistic, so it's very hard to tell who is a good scientist and who is bad, if you're not very well versed in the field.

The point I was making is that MacDonald is an academic who took on the JQ and wasn't fired. He's a professor with tenure protected by the US constitution, but I suspect there are other reasons than that (the Jews could find a way to fire him if they really tried).
