I've been on Sup Forums for more than a decade, but have never participated in waifu draw threads, though I can't count how many of these threads I've seen while scrolling through the board.

The thing I've been wondering about all this time is where did waifu-tan come from? Did somebody just draw her and everybody agreed 'Yep, that's the mascot' or was it a process?

Is the white dress supposed to be a wedding dress? A play on waifu-wife-wedding? Is the tanned skin a play on -tan? Is the multi-colored hair a metaphor for any kind of girl or multiple types of girls? A play on 'everybody's waifu'? Was all this symbolism intentional?

So many questions.
