If one has zero calories a day for 3 days the body enters a “ketogenic state”. There are vital organs (like the brain) that exclusively use glucose as a fuel but after 3 days of zero calories they “convert” to burning “ketone bodies” that are three carbon fragments of fat.

Just some advice - if you do keto, take some caprylic acid and hi-maize. One will be a vital source of non-carb energy, and the other will help with your gut (lots of good bacteria feed off of the kinda thing keto cuts out, so if you take hi-maize resistant starch, you have a lot of trouble actually digesting it, so it just stays in your colon for the good bacteria to feed off of.)

Keto is generally problematic for potassium as ketone loss in urine is coupled with it. Also it’s is generally also fibre poor, which fucks the microbiome.

One can lose a pound a day. Added benefit, you discover just how gluten sensitive your system is. The only risk is your blood pH may drop slightly and if your heart is sensitive or you have a history of arrhythmia one could theoretically have a fatal arrhythmia.

In the run-up to my gastric bypass surgery I was on a low carb diet. I lost 30 lbs while eating as much as I wanted as long as it was green vegetables, unprocessed fruit, and meat.
After the surgery I can't stomach green vegetables. I hope that changes, because I really liked being on low carb (not no-carb).

When the body processed ketones (ie on a ketogenic diet), it excretes then in the urine-coupled with potassium. Not good and can lead to hypokalema. Most keto diets don’t meet the rda for potassium because potassium and carbs generally go together.

BS. I have done it several times in my life. The first time was decades ago when I realized the 25 pounds I gained in Med School had to go. I cant say just who is “behind” saying it is bad is but it works, can be done, and I have done it probably once a decade to drop 30 pounds. I have managed patients who have lost over 70 pounds successfully and maintained it for at least several years.
And resistant starch alone will not keep a microbiome intact. Need a rich variety of fibres, inulin, god, fos etc

Because the daily requirement of potassium is can be around 5 grams depending on the individuals needs. Potassium supplementation is very dangerous to get right because it can lead to fatal heart block
It's too expensive. The few months I tried it was fine. I didn't feel any miraculous improvements, but it did make me lose weight, because I wasn't hungry. The cost of food is much higher though, and having to be so incredibly picky about food in social situations is annoying.
I don't get why ketofags won't just go vegan. You're almost there just cut out the dairy and meat and you'll have the most healthy diet possible.
I dropped significant weight on keto over a very short period of time. I did find the diet difficult, though. Trying to manage mineral deficiencies was difficult to diagnose at first. However, my energy level and mental clarity went through the roof (probably related more to getting rid if the garbage in my system but definitely related to the new diet as it wouldn't have happened without it).
That said, I think I'll go a more Paleo Diet route next time ... I find weight-lifting to extremely difficult now that I am down to 205 and can actual move again but my strength is terrible. I think the blame is more on me than Keto but Paleo seems to have more "substance" to it?
Anyways, Keto is a good way to get your body into a state where it burns fat. I wouldn't want to make a lifestyle of it, though.

Because vegan for most people is not healthy. The human body can operate on a poor diet for decades. It's very easy to miss something in a vegan diet that can literally end up killing you. Not to mention that vegan food tastes disgusting.

I will probably continue for another couple weeks but then ramp up my carb intake slowly as I start to hit the gym more and get back in shape. I think the largest eye opener is realizing how many carbs I use to over eat in the regular. Too much carbs just made my body and mind sluggish and unable to do anything
Keto diet is retarded. You brain and body literally rely on sugar/glucose to survive and convert everything you eat into it. Remaining in a state of ketosis for a long period of time is awful for your health. Not saying that consuming HFCS is healthy but if you're getting your glucose from natural sources like fruit then you're fine.

I haven't noticed much myself(already healthy and strong), but for the people I do it with their health has improved. One diabetic recently had a blood test that confirmed normal AC1 levels and might actually get off medication.
If you do keto, make sure you also do cardio.
For the every day person a low carb diet is fine, but if you have health issues keto is a great way to turn things around fast.
