I’ve always thought it was economically retarded and a meme but Reddit are convincing me that basic economics doesn’t matter
Could Universal Basic Income work?
eventually, once ai/machines do all possible labor that humans can do and make all products virtually free. but that will be 30+ years away
>trickle-up economics
It could, but I'm not convinced it is either the best way to handle automation or unemployment. I lean towards the Job Guarantee.
Another retarded argument I’ve seen on Reddit. In the history of man a technological leap has never meant less work, it’s resulted in longer working hours and higher standards of living.
Likelihood is that AI will mean more jobs for Reddit to shirk
What’s that?
Basic income can work, but not facilitated through the government. It would require 2 prerequisites.
1. Population growth is right at replacement levels.
2. All parents invest into financial instruments that grow in value (stocks, cryptos, commodities, et cetera)
If everyone does this then eventually after perhaps a few generations everyone can attain some sort of basic income through their investments. Basically, imagine a society where everyone has a trust fund that gives out money to them a la basic income.
Imagine a world where products can be purchased for only a few cents but you don't even have a penny to your name so you just die in the street anyway.
>government giving you free money to invest in crypto
People will always find some bullshit for you do to
If everyone invests at a fixed supply the interest rate will shoot up and any increase in people’s income they were looking to save will be negated
if you get rich enough you will eventually just get your money back.
I don't see the purpose, and wealth redistribution is typically always immoral.
> Everything is linear
> There will always be demand
>Reddit
fuck off, pleb
>> There will always be demand
There is unlimited demand at $0
There will always be demand, not necessarily for the same goods and services but there will always be markets and they need labour
>Reddit are convincing me that basic economics doesn’t matter
Entertainment industry will always survive
Are you fucking joking we can’t even get government old people medicine and food stamps right
I’m sure paying everyone 30 grand a year for nothing will totally work fine
Black hole, person has no brain and drains brains from others.
Supply is never infinite at any given instance
It could, but the only time I see it being viable is when corporations eventually replace all their staff with autonomous workers. Tax for each robot and redistribute the tax.
>Could UBI work?
>Could paying people not to work, work?
It's a contradiction in terms, newfag.
Paying people not to work does not work. It's the opposite of work.
>once ai/machines do all possible labor that humans can do
Yes, and Jesus christ is coming back literally next week. Jews and their lies.
Basic income is the only solution.
The math is very simple.
Companies do not like paying people a living wage.
People do not enjoy work.
People are bad at work.
The only problem with basic income is that the only thing people like less than work is the idea of other people not having to work.
The only other solution is just getting rid of money entirely and running the entire society on the honor system. Personally I think it's worth a try.
There is only so much food you can eat, there are only so many ekg readings you can have done, there's only so much botox you can inject into your face.
The simple fact of the matter is that, even now, the vast majority of what the average person does in a day is pointless busywork.
We are literally just taking turns driving each other around, building something that is designed to break in a year so that we can have something to build next year, and getting each other coffee.
If anything, most people are not producing social wealth by being employed. They are destroying it. And a large part of the damage is done just getting to the parking lot and back.
It's fucking stupid. The status quo is a brick on the gas pedal of a car that is headed for a cliff.
It's time for a change in direction.
Why not?
It's inevitable
>giving people something for nothing is the only solution
Lol what?
Yup
It's simple economics, really.
>living wage
Nice meme.
banksters btfo
UBI is the same concept as welfare, help the poor with their financial burden through the government to help them get back on their feet. Sounds great in theory but utterly fails in practice. Look what welfare did to blacks in America, it turned them into lazy, degenerate, niggers. Same thing happened to whites who were poor, turned them into cousin-fucking rednecks.
Don't listen to faggots like pic related, they are the same kind of assholes who sold the idea to their viewers that letting in migrants was a good idea.
bankers want UBI because it creates inflation so they can keep giving out shitty loans
>implying most of the world isnt nigger central
I really dgaf at this point.
This is basically just a backdoor justification for communism, if it would work why not just give everyone unlimited money?
Actually fuck money let’s just let everyone have what they want!!
Without incentive for people to build the word around you we would all still be living on substenance farms
Capitalism is the disease. Communism is the cure.
But Bernie said it was good?
>universal
i don't think they need income in us dollars on betelgeuse or alpha centauri
With automation we could effectively have a productive society with no need for human workers. You could then have some sort of tax scheme to give income to all 8 billion of us as this automated society could more efficiently use scarce resources making things cheaper.
Now here's the problem we aren't going to stop at 8 billion. Especially with no need to work. Take a look at boring as fuck places like Bakersfield CA with pregnant teens everywhere to get an idea of the population explosion about to occur.
No matter how effective and efficient automation is, scarcity will always exist and we will be in for a rude awakening of that economic reality if we don't keep our population and consumption in check.
We've already had "Universal Basic Income" in America for the past 50 years.
We pay for unmarried women to have children, we subsidize their apartment rental costs, we pay the medical bills for their child delivery, we also subsidize the Hospitals at the end of the year, we then put them on the WIC Program and give them free baby formula, we then allow their kids to go to school for free until age 18, we give them reduced cost Cable TV, we give them subsidized public transportation, we give them subsidized home heating oil programs.... and the net result of all of those basic income programs has been that every city in America is now a 3rd world warzone.
>living wage
>social wealth
>honor system
heh'd
Prices will simply adjust upwards and mo money needed will mean mo inflation.
>build productive and vibrant world helping people get off farms and boosting GDP per person
>disease
>but I should just get it
Like paying idiots to post slide threads on Sup Forums?
mining the solar system (which will likely be happening around the time automation completely takes over) for energy and resources will make supply for most things practically infinite.
This. Poeple, especially men, need a job to do. In fact, when men retire they tend to die fairly fast since they have no purpose. Look at all the drug use going on in the US, it's from not having a job. That will be a future without jobs. Personally, I'll take a job with responsibility or at least a hard days work over money just to sit. I can't relax unless I hit the gym, go to work, and have a side project to focus on like getting a new certificate or building a moped. Gotta have goals, with no goals, what's the fucking point? But people have been saying that we won't be working since the 60's, not saying it won't happen, but I'm not too worried yet, I just hope the economy keeps going the way it is to save people before they get too far in the drug hole.
Wrong. Without laborers to buy things in the market, not only will nothing be made, but the essential function of the marketplace, price calculation (think resource allocation), will not take place. Machines cannot allocate resources to meet consumer demands. You will be living under a rationing system.
Capacity for demand is infinite you plebe.
UBI is bad because it is disgenic.

>Reddit are convincing me that basic economics doesn’t matter
economics is a religion
universal basic income can't work, because the public dividend already does what this says it will do with none of the CIA mind fuck
If it fucks over the economy then good.
>Could Universal Basic Income work?
No.
I fund UBI dumb not because of laziness excuses, but greed excuses. Want to rent in a city? Be prepared to rent hikes! The landlords know exactly how much you'd be getting at minimum and charge accordingly.
I was on a form of UBI for nearly four years (disability) and nearly went nuts from not doing anything. How people can say UBI will cause people to sit on their asses and do nothing is foreign to me.
Not when Elon takes us to Mars, then we’ll have unlimited resources
When everyone's getting money from the government it's going to quickly become worthless. You end up right back at Communism. Nice try though kikebots! More money your masters are pouring down the drain. They could just pay the proles (us) a universal Sup Forums income and save! What does your boss say?
>oink
Lol
This.
No one dreams of having the shitty jobs that we all do but at least it gives us purpose.
Read up on the mouse utopia experiment. When we are left to our on devises we will destroy ourselves. A man's life requires purpose.
One more time for the audience....
Guy was busy writing stories about Masturbation and Rape.....
Dont think it's Healthcare he is looking to create for his constituents
Look, if you get all the niggers out then i will pay for your ubi without complaining.
This.
