No, it really is fine. Yes, there's been chapters with rushed, sloppy art (most of which was fixed for the volume releases), but the majority of the manga is drawn fine.

I recommend reading the manga and then giving the 1999 anime a go if you're hungry for more. The 2011 anime doesn't really do anything the manga doesn't do as well or better, so you might as well stick with the original.
