We had this a million times, basically no advertisment. This was planned as an arthouse project anyway and 3Hz was paid beforehand. For them so far this went right.

Do you have source on the no advertisement thing? And no advertisement relative to what? Most late night anime get little advertisement and usually only in Akihabara or underpopulated train stations. Wasn't this airing at 9pm? That timeslot is much better than what most shows get.
Salt was shit.
Did they make the last episodes not look like shit on the BDs tho
It's just not a good show.
Juvenile faux-intellectual, name-dropping tripe with abysmal characters and writing.
Most people aren't as easily fooled as the retards on Sup Forums that just took a psychology class and believe they're witnessing something clever and profound.
It was great direction-wise, too bad it didn't have the writing to match.
Ultimately, Flip Flappers just didn't interest nip otaku at all.
If only there wasn't a certain switch...
It was boring, inconsistent animation, nonsensical plot and characters.
All it had going for it was yuri and they couldn't properly commit.
Hey, who knows, perhaps the nips actually streamed this anime a lot.
I'm kinda surprised that anybody is still somehow willing to make business with Infinite, though.
Their last three anime projects were utter failures on a grand scale, and they wasted everyone's time and money and effort with "trying" to fix Regalia to prevent it from looking worse when nobody was watching it anyway. .
>inconsistent animation
What the fuck am I reading? You only notice the last two eps because the entire rest of the show was one of the most consistent of the whole year.
They fixed some things.
Most consistently mediocre, maybe.
Infinite is the one making business with them.
Probably that. I loved the first half but dislike almost everything after that. It reminded me of Basquash which seemed to become one of my favorite series of the last years when it was airing - till the point when they switched the director and everything turned into a shitty clusterfuck with moon giants.
They should have sticked with the plot of the first part until the end.
yet another good show that got memed to death because the shaft show that season wasn't shitpostable enough
The thing is that the entire plot had been established before they started animating and remained unchanged throughout the series.
The only real change was making episode 8 about giant robots instead of zombies.
Well there was no plot in the first part
>This work was good
No it wasn't
Cocona discovering herself and resolving her doubts if she loved Papika as a sister, as a friend or as a lover.
Good fuck yurifags and fuck their shitty anime
You mean that uninteresting part of the show since both characters were bland and awful archetypes to begin with? I didn't care about that sorry.
Yeah, well, that's just, like, your opinion, man
That and everyone else's opinion who didn't buy the anime.
I wonder if they'll fix the final battle
Some oframes were of the finest QUALITY
This is what happens when sakuga animators try to make a show.
All style and no substance.
>Implying that Japan has good taste.
Well, it didn't have advertisement in Akihabara, or anywhere really. Other anime get radio talk shows, billboards and posters in otaku-ish places, all sorts of merch. It was clear from the beginning the producers made no effort to advertise FliFla, even though most people who watched it liked it.
>Papianus
Did any of anons who ordered Infinite set received theirs yet?
The story was dog shit, the characters were boring and the animation quality dropped off.
You could really feel that writer change.
I haven't even gotten a shipping confirmation yet.
It was not that good. Some episodes were amazing, but those ones really stood out. They couldn't manage to do it consistently.
I consider the first 7 episodes to all be 10/10, and the show overall to be 10/10. The latter portion of the show hit some bumps, but it still did a lot more than most people give it credit for I feel.
What episodes would you say are bad? I can only think of some episodes that weren't that exciting (4 and 10). I would also put 7 low, because in my opinion it didn't really work like intended, but it's still a very good episode on its own.
The scene with Cocona and Papina on the bed was way too good, it makes episode 7 worth it just on its own.
Yes, this was a very good scene. Just feel like there was not enough of something like this and some time wasted on Papikas that weren't interesting or fun. Would have liked to see Cocona spending some more time with one of the boyish Papikas, which some might find heretical.
It also had some nice visuals, but not a world that looked like a PI.
It's a 7/10 at it's best, user.
Needs more doujins
I...wrote a song for Cocona, and it goes like this:
Outside there's a culvert waiting
Outside the dog's pissing tree
Out by the fire breathing
Outside we wait 'til face turns blue
I know the nervous walking
I know the dirty Bu-chan hangs
Out by the hoverboard waiting
Take me away to nowhere plains
There is a wait so long
You'll never wait so long
Here comes your Yayaka
Here comes your Yayaka
Here comes your Yayaka
Big shake on the hoverboard moving
Big shake to the land that's falling down
Is a wind makes a palm stop blowing
A big, big bright light shine and break Salt's Mimi
There is a wait so long
You'll never wait so long
Here comes your Yayaka
Here comes your Yayaka
Here comes your Yayaka
Here comes your Yayaka
There is a wait so long
You'll never wait so long
Here comes your Yayaka
Here comes your Yayaka
Here comes your Yayaka
Here comes your Yayaka
Guess what, fag? I disagree
>Didn't even sell 800 copies each
>"this went right"
Even as an arthouse project, the sales are really, really low. I was thinking that they were maybe predicting to sell about 2k on average, but really, only ~750 average is fucking terrible
Every single madoka clone flops, no exception.
Madoka didn't invent the concept of magical girls. Enough with this meme.
Original show with weird art, no big names, little promotion, and a story that was hard to get into. It's no wonder it remained niche in Japan.
1. Not all magical girl shows are Madoka clones.
2. I wouldn't call it a clone, but YuYuYu sold well.
They just swapped the personalities a bit, I mean, Yayaka is blonde Kyouko, for example, but it is still about:
>Fated meetings. Where one girl knew the other due to some sketchy time stuff.
>A magical world that changes the real one.
>Each world has a boss that drops a gem.
>Wish granting.
>Kind character is revealed to actually have an ulterior motive.
>MC is emotionally unstable, does not hear the advice of the other girl, causing a lot of trouble and placing her trust in people who do not deserve it.
>Fated meetings. Where one girl knew the other due to some sketchy time stuff
Wasn't really fated, and the time stuff is really a minor footnote in Flip Flappers, whereas in Madoka it ends up basically being the core plot mechanic.
>A magical world that changes the real one
Not what either stories are about, and the methods through which the worlds are changed by the magical worlds is rather different. Walpurgisnacht is basically forcing the real world into her barrier, while Mimi is trying to permanently fuse Pure Illusion with the real world.
>Each world has a boss that drops a gem
Cute coincidence. Pure Illusion doesn't always have a boss though, just some sort of defense mechanism, and most Pure Illusions are empty. The purpose and significance of "gems" are also entirely different between the series.
>Wish granting
Which was a red herring in Flip Flappers, and was never realised, nor a real possiblity.
>Kind character is revealed to actually have an ulterior motive
I assume you're referring to Papika and Homura? Papika didn't understand what was going on due to her memories being muddled by the time reversal stuff, she was earnestly attracted to Cocona and Pure Illusion, and just following Salt's orders as far as collecting the amorphous shards goes until her memories resurface later on. And Homura was anything but kind to any of the characters. The only ones who were kind to Madoka were Sayaka and Mami, neither of which had ulterior motives.
>MC is emotionally unstable[...]
This doesn't happen in either show.
Madoka is a dark tragic story about magical girls which thematically focuses on the idea of never giving up hope, and always fighting for a brighter future no matter what.
Flip Flappers is a loopy show ostensibly about playfully exploring crazy magical alternate dimensions, which ends up being about finding your own self, the nature of love, and exploration of umwelt and Jungian philosophy.
Not similar at all.
God damnit, that looks wonderful. Im regretting only getting the standard ver
Early lolsorandom episodes killed the show
>muh alzheimers le who are you
Worst episode by far
>muh alzheimers le who are you
What episode was that?
>name-dropping
Tell us a single name that was dropped.
If you want some real name-dropping, look no further than Madoka.
You all don't deserve flip flap. The director intentionally dumbed down the intellectual intensity in the first half because he was afraid of scaring off casuals. It's a design and the writer didn't matter much. Yet it turns out the dumbed down part is the only thing you can latch onto. The director feels stuck between a rock and a hard place.
See the new interview from Animestyle.
There was no intellectual intensity in this show.
You are too dumb to perceive.
This
Where did you anons order from? Infinity shop or elsewhere?
I used the order request for cdjapan, they've held my thousand dollars for many months now.
Infinite shop. Just buy from the horse's month.
Too far ahead of it's time. In a thousand years people will excavate Flip Flap BDs from ruins of Japan and build a transcendential cult around it. We on the other hand are too pleb to experience it.
One that was shit, probably 5 or 6.
Not a thousand year. I'd say three to five years before Oshiyama's next hit piece elevates this to a status of the gunbuster of psyfi anime. Recall that Yuasa's first or two works were also obscure web of mess.
Opinion on Flip Flappers should be a litmus test for taste on Sup Forums.
lesbians
that went wrong
Where is the ahoge in that pic
Too bad the show wasn't popular enough to warrant the creation of doujins.
It's very hard to fetishize the characters. They are just too self-contained.
Tell that to Futanon.
There should be 100 yuri doujins right now if it was more popular
That means it was on him for not just going full-on intellectual.
>What was wrong?
They tried too hard to be Gainax. But nobody there had the same skills as Anno or Tsurumaki.
Oh you mean Iro-chan's episode, involving the old woman with actual alzheimers? I thought you were poorly alluding to Papika's muddled memories.
What was your problem with that episode?
Nobody tried to be Gainax. The director specifically said he is not a lolicon. And Oshiyama is not mentally ill as Anno. Infinite earned some fuxk you money from shirobako so there was little pressure to pander to the audience unlike Gainax.
Am I blind? I don't see any difference
Just Papika's face, as far as I can tell, mainly the shadows. These BD touch-ups are always very minor.
oshiyama was literally crying on twitter about having to save the series from disaster because they didnt know what the fuck to do with the second half.
>These BD touch-ups are always very minor.
They know. But they don't know how the audience will feel about it. Who the fuck think about how his life issues originate from his mother? Nobody until late 20s.
How the fuck did the TV version look so awful?
These aren't even touch-ups, it's a completely fresh animation from scratch. What the hell.
No, he was crying on twitter because he worked like a week nonstop to get the product finished for airing.
I thought it was interesting, but my problem was with the later episodes. The plot took far too long to kick in and felt like it was tacked on. The previous episodes were just wacky adventures in strange settings with the objective being to beat the boss and grab the amorphous. The last few episodes tried to cram in a ton of background info AND conclude the story they created in too little of time. The quality also took a dive in the last few episodes, while early episodes were absolutely gorgeous (3 for example).
Even then, the background info didn't explain shit like the scientist KKK cult, the whole strange Papika de-aging process shown in the later episodes, and a couple of other things. Heck, I can't even remember the Third Amorphous child's name because she was so irrelevant to the plot.
The real plot is ultimately very hostile to the usual anime viewers. The real plot is about your relationship with your mother and how that defines your ego. No amount of visual candy can hide that inherent unpleasantness. Yet being unpleasant is very far from being bad, quite to the contrary.
Sometimes bad shows have good sales.
Sometimes good shows have bad sales.
In this case a bad show got bad sales, what's the problem?
>The previous episodes were just wacky adventures in strange settings with the objective being to beat the boss and grab the amorphous.
I can't believe anyone could think this was actually the case. Like how dumb do you have to be? Not even during airing did anyone think this.
Nigga you and I both know the early episodes (1-5) did not have any relation to Mimi at all. Each one had to do with building friendship and trust, along with a few other things. You also got smacked with some feels in episode 7.
The whole Mimi protecting Coconut didn't come into effect until the last few episodes. Heck, no one even fully explained what the amorphous did until then.
What are the monsters in ep 1 and what are the monsters in ep 13? Found any resemblance?
>MAO sign
Can I have that?
>being this fucking retarded
Why are you even in this thread if you clearly didn't understand basic themes or imagery? What made you come in here just to tell everyone how dumb you were?
>implying you could make that connection at all by watching the show while it was airing
You'd realize it once you got to 13, but if you went into the show blind, all you'd get out of it is Papicunt and Cockna going on adventures in themed lands to get the shiny rocks, with some tension about friendship between them. The later episodes DO bring in a plot, but they do so far too late. Episode 6 shows the concept of fucking up people's brains (which is later shown with Salt's dad), much like the monsters in 1 and 13. The issue is none of this is brought up in a fashion that is gradual. It's just "oh so THAT'S what that was" when you get to it.
By all means, explain it to me then. I'm all ears.
Thematic and symbolic relevance. Saying that the exploration and experimentation with Pure Illusion, or the development of the Cocona/Papika relationship are all irrelevant to the plot seems kind of dumb, no offense.
It's like saying most of Eva was irrelevant because it had no relation to Seele and Instrumentality. You're missing the point, as well as the fact that the final climax couldn't happen the way it does without the characters having gone through what they've gone through in the earlier episodes, nor without the viewers understanding the story's world thanks to those same episodes.
So your issue is that when a new concept is introduced (like the deeper layer of PI in the Iro episode), the show doesn't outright tell you what that concept is going to be used for in the long run or grand scheme of things?
There were too many signs to not notice. But it's alright if you missed it.
The early episodes were ripe for all kinds of deconstruction: what are the rocks, what are pure illusions, what are the girl/woman in the boat, etc and they prepared visual answers to all of that so it's not just random guesses.
That's wondering why/how a thing exists, not deconstruction. Pure Illusion for example wasn't even explained until far later on, with hints of it being tied to reality in Episode 6, along with its proper explanation in Episode 10-13.
Stop trying to make a puddle look deep.
